ROBERT "BOBBY" ALLEN ROE
ROBERT “BOBBY” ALLEN ROE
January 7, 1944 - January 23, 2016
Westbrookville, NY
The Lord called Bob Roe home on January 23rd after a courageous battle against cancer and COPD. He passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side.
He was born on January 7, 1944 in Middletown, NY, the son of Joseph and Marion Ennis Roe. Bob led an active and full life with his loving wife and “best buddy”, Marlene. He enjoyed the outdoors: hunting, fishing, falling trees and splitting wood, and using his special “toy”, his John Deer backhoe.
He relied on his son-in-law, Craig, to help him keep everything running, and did not believe in throwing anything out. With his failing health, it has been Sissy, Chrissy and Craig who have taken over helping at home. His final adventure was trying to help Dean repair Go Karts over the telephone.
Bob was an avid NASCAR fan and Jeff Gordon supporter, and always looked forward to the Daytona 500 to start a new season. Prerace festivities always included a patio gathering with Ed, Charlie, and the boys at Bob and Marlene’s home in Port Orange, FL. He enjoyed the winter warmth in Florida, and peaceful walks along the beach. Bob retired from Bakery Local 550, as a driver for Wonder Bread. He enjoyed the retired drivers’ get-togethers at the Mt. View. He was the owner of Bee/Geez Bar and Restaurant in Wurtsboro, NY. He was a skilled carpenter, always willing to help others with their projects.
Bob was past chief and a lifetime member of the Bloomingburg Fire Department, a member of the Middletown Elks Lodge #1097, Loyal Order of Moose, and Sons of American Legion Post 0361 in Dayton Beach, FL. He was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marlene Ashworth, at home; two daughters: Christine (Craig) Blakesly and Tracey Thomas, and step-son, William Attreed; five grandchildren: Craig (Amanda) and Robert Blakesly, Christie, Michaela and Danielle Thomas, and great-grandson, Bradeon Blakesly; brothers: Richard (Joan) Roe, Ralph (Jeannine)Roe; sister, Rhea Arnold; sister-in-law, Darlene (Sissy) Rassiga, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by a son, Robert Roe, Jr.; brothers: Joseph, Elvin (William), John, and Duane Roe, and sisters: Marion Botsford, Shirley Bonifcae, June Poharski, and Elva (Wilma) Plocharczyk.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Doctor Dinsmore, Nurse Kirsten, and the team at Hospice of Sullivan/Orange County for their loving care and support. Thank you goes to Pastor Lora Villinger for her spiritual guidance. He relied on Brian to drive him around the city and play a wicked round of golf with him. Grateful appreciation goes to all the family and friends who stopped by to visit and all those who extended caring thoughts and prayers to the family during this difficult time.
There will be no visitation.
Please remember Bobby by sharing a special memory or a laugh, doing a kind deed for someone, offering a word of encouragement, or extending a helping hand to someone in need. These are the values that Bobby lived with……..pass them on! Interment in Westbrookville Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Sullivan/Orange County, 800 Stony Brook Cr., Newburgh, NY 12550.
