MARY BALCH HENSZ, MATAMORAS, PENNSYLVANIA

Mary Balch Hensz age 86 of Matamoras, Pennsylvania died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Milford Senior Health Care, Milford, PA.She was born on  May 19, 1928 in Port Jervis, NY the daughter of the late Alfred and Mildred C. Wohlscheid Balch.  Mary worked as a bank teller for  the First National Bank in Milford, PA.  She was a faithful member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church.  Mary married George Hensz, who pre-deceased her.  She is survived by her grandson, Steven Hess and Melanie of Port Jervis, her  son-in-law John Zachry of Matamoras, her sister-in-law Noel Balch of Matamoras, two nephews, Joseph Balch and his wife Lynette, George Balch and his wife Cheryl, her niece Ann Balch and several great nieces  and nephews.  Mary was pre-deceased by her daughter Valorie Zachry on May 2, 2014, and her brother Robert "Gus" Balch.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held  Monday, December 1, at 10 AMat St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Matamoras, PA.  Msgr. Paul Knauer will be the celebrant.  Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras, PA.  Arrangements are by the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. THOMAS E. OWEN, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

Thomas E. Owen, age 72 of Port Jervis, NY died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at home.  Tom was born in Port Jervis on June 19, 1942 the son of the late Thomas J. and Mary Grace Marion Owen.  He retired from the Dept. of Public works for the City of Port Jervis and was a member of the C.S.E.A.  He was a communicant of Most Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Port Jervis.  Tom  married  Linda Biccum Owen on February 8, 1965, who survives at home.  He is also survived by his daughter,  Debra Mills and her husband Robert of Port Jervis,  four grandchildren, Brittany, Angela, Courtney Martone  and Bobby Mills, his great grandson, Jacob Owen Brink,  his daughter Jacqueline Callahan of Sparrowbush, his sister, Marie Stern  and her companion John  Ricciardi of Mountain Top, Penna. and his uncle Derby Biccum of Port Jervis. Tom was pre-decased by his daughter Michele Marie Owen. Visitation will be held Monday, November 24, from 4-6 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 25 at 11 AM at the funeral home with Rev. George Hafemann officiating. CHARLES RICHTER, MONTAGUE, NEW JERSEY

Charles Richter age 92 of Montague, New Jersey died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Milford Senior Care Health & Rehabilitation Facility, Milford, PA.  He was born on December 19, 1921 in Germany the son of the late Richard and Clara Wesener Richter.  Charles proudly served our country during WW II with the US Army.  He was a member of the Drew United Methodist Church in Port Jervis and a member of the Roosa-Fleming VFW Post #161, Port Jervis. Charles  worked as a design draftsman for Kolmar Labs, Inc. in Port Jervis.  He married Lorraine  Sutton Richter who survives.  He is survived by his niece Linda Richter Stroh and his nephew William Richter.  He was pre-deceased by his brother Joseph Richter. Interment will take place at a later time at Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, NY. MARY LATINI, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

Mary Latini, age 98, loving mother and grandmother died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at her home.  She was born on January 3, 1916 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late  Ralph and Frances Ruggeiri Morgi. Mary retired from Kolmar Labs, Inc. in Port Jervis. She was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society. She married Lawrence J. Latini who pre-deceased her. Mary is survived by her two sons: Lawrence R. Latini and his wife, Susan of Lodi, NY and Joseph Latini and his wife, Sherry of Saugerties, NY; her two daughters: Georgianna Black of Port Jervis and Frances Buchanan of Port Jervis; her five grandchildren: Penny Rudinger and her husband, Adam, Zachery Gokay and his wife, Alexis,  Luke Latini and his wife, Jody,  Larry Latini and his wife, Beth, Baird Buchanan  and his fiance, Veronica; six great grandchildren: Merry Kate, Adam Ross, Abigail, Allison, Lawson, Mya and one cousin. Mary was predeceased by her sister, Lena Morgi. Friends may call  from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, November 16th at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis. Prayers will be offered  at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, November 17th at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis, NY;  Rev. ELIZABETH A. HAWKINS, MATAMORAS, PENNSYLVANIA, FORMERLY OF PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

Elizabeth A. Hawkins, age 67 of Matamoras, PA, and formerly of Port Jervis, died  Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Belle Reve Health Care Facility, Milford, PA.  She was born on  September 26, 1947 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Daly Hawkins.  Elizabeth worked as a pharmacist technician for Walt-Mart at Westfall Township, PA.  She was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis.  Elizabeth is survived by her brother Edward C. Hawkins of Matamoras,  her sister Margaret Andersen and her husband Frank of Burlingham, NY, her nephew Kevin Andersen and his wife  Courtney, her aunt Charlotte Daly , her uncle John Daly and family, her cousins Maureen Sotor and family, James Daly and family, Mary Goodman and family, Eileen Wilkinson and family, Cathleen  Higgs and family, Gerry Lerner and family,  Shirley and John Shannon of Port Jervis.  Visitation will be held Thursday, November 13, from 3-6 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. MARCELLA R. NASTOR, COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO, FORMERLY OF PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK


Marcella R. Nastor (Aunt Margie), beloved aunt, age 94, formerly of Port Jervis, New York, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2014 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  She was born in Southold, Long Island NY, December 20, 1919 the youngest of six children born to the late Ben & Helen Nastor.

Marcella was born and raised in New York and spent most of her adult life there.  She enlisted in the Army during World War II and hoped to see the world but never left New York State.  After her military service she worked for Gannett, a large publishing company in White Plains, NY for many years and then retired and moved to Port Jervis, NY to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Anna & Clarence Knealing.  She then moved to Colorado Springs in December, 1996 with her niece Elizabeth (Knealing) Wilcox.

Marcella was predeceased by her sisters Anna Knealing, Mary Zack, Nellie Nastor, Sister Carolyn Therese Nastor and Sister Mary Aquin Nastor.  She leaves behind her niece Elizabeth Wilcox of Colorado Springs and her nephew Terence Knealing of Greenville, NY; as well as a host of great nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 9:15-10:15 am. Prayers will be offered at 10:15 am at Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main Street, Port Jervis, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 46 Ball St. Port Jervis, NY. Burial will followed in the Knealing Family Cemetery in Shohola, PA.

ADA "DOT" TONKINSON, POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK, FORMERLY OF POND EDDY, NEW YORK

Ada "Dot" Tonkinson, age 95 formerly of Pond Eddy, NY entered into eternal rest  Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the home of her granddaughter Laurie in Poughkeepsie.  She was born on February 23, 1919 at Corona, New York, the daughter of the late  Henry G. and Alice Smith Meyer.  Dorothy married  Rev. C. Frank Tonkinson on April 15, 1936 celebrating 69 years of marriage until his death in 2005. Dot was a faithful member of the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women and a member of the Friendship Circle of the Church. She was a member of the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church, a choir member and director of the children's choir, Sunday school teacher, a member of the ladies aid society of  the church,  and a member of the MYF ( Methodist Youth Fellowship). While residing in Florida, Dot was also a  member of the Brooksville United Methodist Church in Brooksville and played the piano at all three churches.  She is survived by her daughter Lynn Tonkinson Brent of Poughkeepsie, her son Kenneth T. Tonkinson and his wife Gloria of  Sun Lakes, Arizona, her loving grandchildren, Laurie Brent  Schiavone and her husband Frank, Peter J. Brent and his wife Suquina,  Michael J. Brent and his wife  Marisa, Scott T. Tonkinson and his wife Karen, Gregory Tonkinson and his wife  Jennifer, 13 great grandchildren, Maxwell, Garrett, Jacob, Nathan, Emmilee, Aubree, Ryan, Megan, Caden, Bailey,  Malia, Luke, Zack and several nieces and nephews.  Dorothy was pre-deceased by her two brothers, Thomas H. Meyer and Henry G. Meyer. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, at 1 PM  at the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church, Berme Church Road, Pond Eddy.  Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst will officiate.  Interment will follow at Glen Spey Cemetery, Glen Spey.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Dorothy's name to the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church, PO Box 145, Pond Eddy, NY 12770.  Arrangements are by the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. JOHN C. ROMEO, JR., PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

John C. Romeo, Jr. died peacefully after a brief illness on November 7, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Place in Port Jervis, New York. John was born January 15, 1940, in Port Jervis, the son of the late John Romeo, Sr. and Catherine Babey Romeo. He was 74.

John graduated from Port Jervis High School Class of 1958 and from Marist College in 1964 with a B.A. in English. He did his graduate work at the University of Scranton. John returned to his hometown of Port Jervis to teach English for 31 years, chairing the English Dept at the PJHS for 23 years and relishing his teaching of English Literature especially. He was always proud of his English department colleagues, who showed creativity, intelligence and dedication to their students. In 1975 under the inspiration and hard work of Jerry Cohen, John and Bob Rifkin began the Syracuse Project Advance program in English at PJHS, a program that enabled students to earn college credit while high school seniors.

John’s years of coaching football also made him proud. John played football for Joe Viglione in 1957 and began coaching with Joe in 1967, which he continued to do for 16 years. With much affection he remembered his years coaching also with Bob Witherow who remained a dear and supportive friend.

John was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Assoc., the Marist Alumni Assoc, and the Democratic Party.

He is survived by his loving wife, Geri Hill-Romeo, brother James Romeo, his daughter Mari-Beth Blackwell and her husband Ian, of Charlotte, NC, his son Mark Romeo also of Charlotte, NC, grandsons Dominic and Brock Blackwell, sister-in-law Kathleen Hill McGee and her husband Donald of Cranford, NJ, nieces Kate McGee of Austin, TX and Annie McGee of New York, NY.. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law Mary Kuziw Hill, his father-in-law Gerald Hill and by good buddy Don Clayton with whom and his family John and Geri spent so many happy Cape Cod summers.

John’s family thanks all our special friends and family members who helped out so much during a difficult time and many others who gave such kind support and care, especially Dr. Gopal Shah and the nursing staff at Bon Secours Community Hospital and St. Joseph’s Place.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home,154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Prayers will be offered at 7 PM  with Rev. George Hafemann officiating.. A reception will follow to celebrate John’s life.

JEAN M. DEMBECK, SPARROWBUSH, NEW YORK

Jean M. Dembeck, age 89, of Sparrowbush, NY died peacefully surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter, on Saturday, November 1, 2014. She was born May 17, 1925 in Port Jervis, New York the daughter of the late George J. Weigel, Sr. and the late Mildred Pinney Weigel. and loving sister to the late George "Dutch" Weigel , Jr. She Graduated from Port Jervis High School and was employed by Eddy Farm Hotel Resort for 27 years. She married Joseph W. Dembeck Jr, who pre-deceased her.. Jean is survived by her son Joseph W. Dembeck, III and his wife Kathy of Sparrowbush, N.Y., her daughter Marla Dembeck Hulse of Matamoras, P.A., grandaughters, Melissa Hulse and Andrew Lewis of Portsmouth, Virginia, Jennifer Helt and husband Mike of Matamoras, Pa.her grandson Joseph W. Dembeck, IV and Natalie Jones of Skowhegan Maine. Three great grandchildren, Michael, John and Nicole Helt of Matamoras, Pa. Her sister in law Victoria Weigel of Matamoras. Six nieces, Susan Levandowski Cynthia McGovern, Janice Vinicuilla , Elizabeth Coffey ., Barbara Zaniser and Sylvia Dembeck Lau, her nephews Jeffrey J. Weigel and Stanley Dembeck. Jean's family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Gopal Shah for the wonderful care he has provided and for always being there when needed. Jean was very active in the Sparrowbush Senior Citizens "Club" and always ready to play a hand of pinochle and reminisce about her trips to Hawaii and China. She was a member of the River Valley Cahpter, #33, O.E.S. Jean loved cats and would be very happy to know that donations may be made to the Port Jervis-Deerpark Humane Society, 202 US 209 Port Jervis, New York 12771, in her memory. PAULINE "PAULA" NORGREN, MATAMORAS, PENNSYLVANIA

Pauline  "Paula" Norgren, age 84 of Matamoras, Pennsylvania died Friday, October 31, 2014 at her home. She was born on November 20, 1929 in Tarrytown, NY, the daughter of the late  Donald and Dorothye Masterson MacLean.  Paula was a professional dancer and was a member of the Rockets at Radio City Music Center in New York City.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society.  Paula married Timothy Norgren, who pre-deceased her.  She is survived by her sons, Joseph Rodino and his wife Lucille of Milford, PA., Thomas Rodino of Milford, PA, her two daughters, Donna Smith and her husband Donald of Norwich, Conn., and Doreen Murphy of Montville, Conn., 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, her sister Shirley Giganti of Gainesville, Florida and several nieces and nephews.  Services and interment will be private.  Memorial contributions may  be made in Paula's name to the Port Jervis-Deerpark Humane Society, Route 209, Port Jervis, NY 12771.  Arrangements are by the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Joan C. Gregory, age 75 of Westbrookville, NY died Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Valley View Center, Goshen, NY.  She was born on  March 6, 1939 in Warwick, NY, the daughter of the late  Clarence and Josephine Gailie Van Sickle.  Joan worked as an assembler for Kolmar Labs, Inc, in Port Jervis.  She married Allan Gregory who pre-deceased her.  Joan is  survived by her four sons, Donald Gregory and his wife Karen of Sussex, NJ, Danny Green and his wife Donna of Sparrowbush, Rodney Gregory of Glen Spey, David Gregory and his wife Valerie of Port Jervis,five daughters, Dawn R. Brush and her husband Jim of Glen Spey, Judy Teague and her husband Rick of Huguenot, Dawn  M. Mary L. Flieger age 93 of Port Jervis, NY died on October 30, 2014 at St. Joseph's Place, Port Jervis, NY. She was born on December 30, 1920 in Port Jervis, the daughter of the late  William and  Lulu Snyder Brierley.  Mary worked for Kolmar Labs in Port Jervis as an assembler.  She was a member of the Deerpark Reformed Church, Port Jervis and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #33, Port Jervis.  Mary was a loving Mother, Grandmother and a friend to all who knew her.  She will be deeply missed.  She married Russell J. Flieger who pre-deceased her.  Mary is survived by her daughter, Lou Ann  Clarke and her husband James of Port Jervis, her two sons,  John "Jack" Flieger and his wife  Loree of Port Jervis and Gary Flieger of Godeffroy, NY, her six grandchildren, Jeff, Chris, Becky, Eric, Craig, and Chad, her four great grandchildren, Gage, Tyler, Emma, Ava, her sister Betty Hartwig of Ft. Myers, Florida and several nieces and nephews.  She was pre-deceased by her sisters, Fran Slater and Patricia Sutherland.  Graveside services to be announced in the Spring will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY. Rev.
