Robert Walter Ott, son of the late Walter J. and Clara (Claire) L. Krause Ott, was reunited with his beloved family in heaven on Tuesday morning, September 23, 2014. Born on August 19, 1938 in Port Jervis, NY, he was a 1956 graduate of Port Jervis High School. He married the love of his life, Maryann R. Conklin, on November 28, 1959 who sadly predeceased him on September 22, 2002. Robert was also predeceased by his step-sister, Joyce A. Ott Krause in February 1998 and by both his sons, Kenneth Carl Ott on August 15, 2001 and Kurt Robert Ott on January 21, 2011. Robert was a mechanical designer at Channel Master in Ellenville, NY for sixteen years (1958-1974). He worked closely with the electronic lab before establishing Robert Ott Electronics in 1974 which is still operating today. His antenna, tower and satellite crews were kept busy to Kingston, Newburgh, Narrowsburg, and all over the heavily-developing Poconos. For over 40 years, everyone in the area knew where to get the best antennas and scanners in town, along with crystals, service, and if you were lucky, a beer, too. Robert was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Port Jervis. He was proud of helping to build the current East Main Street structure and to provide on-going support for it throughout the years. He was also a 34-year member of Port Jervis Elks Lodge #645, playing Santa Claus for several years during their Christmas Day Children’s Parties. Yes, they made a Santa suit that big, and he loved seeing the kid’ smiles. Dad proudly served as Past Treasurer of Port Jervis Pop Warner Football League for 10 years, was a 34- year past member of the Port Jervis Fire Department, and a past member of the Pike County Builders Association. A stoic member of the National Rifle Association, past member of the Tri-State Road & Gun Club, and the Penn-NY Handgunners, he firmly believed in the right to bear arms for the hunting sportsman. He was also a member of AARP but never claimed to be more than 50 years old in heart! Robert was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol during the 1950’s, operating out of the Huguenot Airport in Huguenot, NY. It is here where he learned to become a pilot under the tutoring of the late Robert Pohlman. Robert was a long, long time NY Yankees fan. Need we say more? Robert is terribly missed by his daughter, Kathleen Ott Weiss, and son-in-law, Barry, of Syracuse, NY; his ‘little’ sister, Lyn Ott Michaels, and brother-in-law, William of Lubbock, TX; brother-in-law, Henry Conklin, Jr. of Port Jervis; his aunt and uncle, Carlyle and Kathy Krause of Matamoras, PA; nephews Joseph (Maggie) Seddio of St. Petersburg, FL and Frank Seddio, Jr. (Pam) of Dallas, TX, numerous cousins as well as his life-long friends John and Jean Wehinger, Bill and Judy Kellerman, Lefty Barth, and Jim Knight, who were of great comfort and devoted friendship. Robert’s caretakers, Margo Griger and Connie Pandish, next door neighbor Mike Swingle, and all his Francis Street neighbors are remembered and thanked for their kindness, concern, and care for Robert, demonstrating what a community is all about. The family would also like to extend their great appreciation for the kind, professional care Dad received from the physicians, nurses, and staff at Newton Memorial Hospital, Newton, NJ. Calling Hours will be held this Thursday, September 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis, NY. The Port Jervis Elks Lodge #645 will conduct a memorial service at 7:30 pm that evening. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Patt Kauffman will officiate. Interment will take place in the family plot at Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras, PA. In lieu of flowers, one may contribute to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 31 West Main St., Port Jervis, N.Y. 12771 and/or the Port Jervis Police Department, 20 Hammond St., Port Jervis, N.Y., who we thank for their unwavering service to Robert.
