Amelia M. ("Mickey") Sauer, 86 of Lake Wales, FL, formerly of Port Jervis, NY passed away on October 25 at Belle Reve Senior Care Facility in Milford, PA. Her death was the result of cancer which had rapidly spread throughout her body in the last several weeks. She died comfortably and peacefully with Russ Jr. and her granddaughter Amy Skellett, each holding one of her hands. Mickey joined her husband Russ who passed away June 29, 2012. The daughter of Umberto and Concetta Savarese, Amelia was born August 23, 1926 in Corona, NY. She was a graduate of Bishop McDonnell HS, Brooklyn, NY. She was employed by Manufacturer's Trust Co, NYC where she met our dad, Russell F. Sauer. They married on April 29, 1951 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Corona, NY. They shared 61 years and six children together. Mickey and Russ resided in Deer Park, Long Island NY until 1957 when they moved their family to Port Jervis. They lived in PJ until 2001 then retired to Florida where they had a home in Saddlebag Lake Resort, Lake Wales. Mickey relocated to Milford in June 2012 after Russ passed away to be near her daughter Janet and son Kerry. For 20 years Mickey was a secretary for the Port Jervis Urban Renewal/Community Development Agency. She retired in 1989 as executive secretary. She served as a "Gray Lady" for St. Francis Hospital and was a member of the PJ Heritage Commission. Mickey was a devout Catholic and a long-time parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis. She was very proud to have all of her children attend St. Mary's School until its closing. Most importantly, she was a loving and devoted wife and mother, taking care of all our needs, leaving little time for herself. Although distance kept them apart "Nony" felt she was also blessed to have 18 grandchildren, all of whom she deeply missed. She never had the chance to know and enjoy her 6 great-grandchildren, as she was legally deaf and lost her sight in 2008. Nony had just learned that #7 would arrive in April. Nony loved all of her family! She is survived by sons Russell Jr. and wife Marti Hodgdon of Agoura Hills, CA, Ronald of Englewood, CO, Kerry of Port Jervis, daughter Janet and husband Russ of Milford, PA and daughter-in-law Kim Sauer of Bel Air, MD; grandchildren Heather Rey, Jennifer Frady, Amy Skellett, Erin Finn, Kelly Sauer and their spouses; Dr. Scott, Megan,Michelle, Kevin, Morgan and Ryan Sauer, Kendall and Garrett Mello, Darren, Bryan and Kyle Smith, Erik and Matthew Decker; great-grandchildren Zachary and Cooper Rey, Myla Skellet, Griffin Frady and twins Kylie and Dylan Finn.
