MARGARET JENKS, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK
Margaret Jenks of Port Jervis, a lifetime resident of Port Jervis, passed away Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at home with her family by her side. She was 84.
She was born July 4, 1928 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late Fred J. and the late Alice Davey Luckey. She was married to her husband, Merville Jenks for 59 years. She was the identical twin of the late Anne Reilly, who gave her the nickname, “Sis” – a name her many friends and family called her. She was devoted to her husband as he was to her. She was a loving and kind mother to Nancy Harding and Linda Obermeyer and a gentle and loving grandmother to Joseph and Joshua Obermeyer and Christopher and Bridget Harding. She was greatly loved by her family including her sister, Marion “Honey” Quinn and her many nephews and nieces, whom she loved and cherished. Survivors include her loving husband, Merville Jenks, at home; two daughters, Nancy Harding and her husband, Matthew of Rumson, NJ and Linda Obermeyer and her husband, Joseph of Sparrowbush, NY; and four grandchildren, Christopher and Bridget Harding of Rumson, NJ and Joseph and Joshua Obermeyer of Sparrowbush, NY; her sister, Marion “Honey” Quinn and sister-in-law, Kathleen Luckey and many loving nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her identical twin sister, Anne Reilly, her brother-in-law, Thomas Reilly and by her two brothers, William and James Luckey.
Margaret (“Sis”) was a member of Saint Mary’s Church and previously of Most Sacred Heart Church. She had been in involved in nocturnal adoration and taught CCD when her children were little. As family friend, Father Dan O’Hare said, “Margaret’s passing is our loss, but Heaven’s gain.” She will be forever loved and missed.
Friends may call Thursday, November 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis. Prayers will be offered Friday, November 30 at 9:15 AM at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis, NY. Rev. DAVID W. HAYES, WOODBOURNE, NEW YORK, FORMERLY OF PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK
David W. Hayes, age 66, of Woodbourne, NY, formerly of Port Jervis, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 at Catskill Regional Medical Ctr., Harris, NY. He was born on August 5, 1946 in Orange, New Jersey, the son of the late Harvey and Elsie Hills Hayes. David proudly served our country during the Viet Nam War with the US Marines. He worked as a salesman for Sears Dept. Store in Middletown, NY. David married Robin Runnalls Hayes, who survives at home. He is also survived by his son David Hayes of Maryland and his daughter, Deborah Hayes Toppin and her husband Anthony of Maryland, his grandson, 2 Step-daughters, Natasha and Alyssa and 2 stepsons, Richard and Kyle. Graveside services, with military honors will be held Thursday, November 29 at 2:30 PM at the Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, NY. ANN E. LAMB, FORMERLY OF EAST HANOVER, NEW JERSEY
Ann E. Lamb age 97 formerly of East Hanover, New Jersey, passed away Friday, November 23, 2012 at Newton Hospital, Newton, NJ. She was born on June 30, 1915 in Olean, NY, the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Klasick Gergel. Ann was a retired assembler for Voltronics, Inc. in E. Hanover, NJ. She was a faithful member of St. James the Greater R.C. Church in Montague, NJ and she attended St. Rose of Lima RC Church in E. Hanover. Ann married Robert T. Lamb, Sr, who predeceased her. She is survived by her son Robert T. Lamb, Jr of Succasunna, NJ, her 2 daughters, MaryAnn Delman and her husband Francis of Blairstown, NJ, and Margaret "Peggy" Gray and her husband Richard of Montague, her brother Michael Gergel and his wife Catherine of Olean, NY, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 28, at 11am at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, East Hanover, NJ. Rev. Wayne Varga, Rev. Richard Carton and Rev. MARILYN RIDGEWAY, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK
Marilyn Ridgeway, age 83 of Port Jervis, NY passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at her home. She was born on February 29, 1929 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late Albert and Kathryn Garland Ridgeway. Marilyn was a retired sales lady and worked at Whitney's Dress Shop in Port Jervis, Hoppey's Store, Lily's Dress Shop, and Something New. She was an Avon representative for many years in Port Jervis. Marilyn also would babysit for many families, making each family like her own. She loved her pet cats and enjoyed playing cards with all her friends. She is survived by several cousins and a host of close friends that were family. A spring interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis, will be announced at a later date. JAMES W. GALVIN, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK
James W. Galvin, age 69 of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at St. Joseph's Place, Port Jervis. He was born on September 23, 1943 in Port Jervis, the son of the late Girard and Edna Keener Galvin Ricciardi. Jim was a retired truck driver for Tetz & Sons, Inc. in Middletown, NY. He proudly served our country during the Viet Nam War with the U.S. Army. He is a member of The Roosa-Fleming V.F. W., #161, Port Jervis, The Tri-State Naval Ship #7241 and the James C. Bilz American Legion Post #685. Jim is survived by his daughter, Shannon Buck and her husband Dale of Cuddebackville, NY, his granddaughter Ella Jane Buck , his brother, John Galvin of Matamoras,, 2 nephews John & Steve Galvin his niece Mary Snyder and 1 great nephew and 3 great nieces. GEORGE W. HAMILTON, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK
George W. Hamilton age 83 of Port Jervis, NY passed away Thursday, November 22, 2012 at his home. He was born on July 16, 1929 in Port Jervis, NY, the son of the late Howard and Evelena Edwards Hamilton. George was a retired truck driver for Rupp Southern Tier Trucking Co. in Middletown, NY. He is a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis, the Knights of Columbus, Council #471, Port Jervis and the D & H Square Dancers. George met the love of his life, Marion Hemmer, while working at GLF in Liberty, NY. He married Marion on August 7, 1949 and celebrated 63 years of wonderful marriage. Following an early retirement, he and his wife Marion traveled extensively throughout every state in the United States. They also traveled to each and every Province in Canada. George's exceptional love for dogs was a testament of his caring and loving nature, and exemplified his personality and character throughout his life. He was deeply saddened if a dog was neglected and was ready and willing to help in anyway he possibly could. He is survived by his beloved wife Marion Hemmer Hamilton at home, 2 daughters, Catherine Hamilton of Middletown, NY, and Nancy Hamilton of Wheat Ridge, Colo., his son, William Hamilton and his wife Christine of Londonderry, New Hampshire, 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth and Timothy Hamilton, 2 nieces Sandy Chalker and Donna Calderon, and his nephew, Andrew Calderon. PHYLLIS ZACHRY ROMAN, SPARROWBUSH, NEW YORK
Phyllis Zachry Roman, age 71 of Sparrowbush, NY passed away Friday, November 2, at Milford Senior Care, Milford, Penna. She was born on August 1, 1941 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late John and Dorothy Reeves Zachry. Phyllis worked for Altec Lansing, Inc., in Milford, and then she worked as an assistant manager for the Family Dollar Store in Port Jervis. She was a member of the Drew United Methodist Church in Port Jervis. Phyllis is survived by her son, John Gushue and his wife Ginni of Sparrowbush, NY, 2 daughters, Debra Nason and her husband Joseph of Matamoras, Pa., and Billie Gushue of Pennsylvania, her brother John Zachry and his wife Valorie of Matamoras, 5 grandchildren, Christina, Jason, LeRoy, Clarissa and John M.Z., 4 great grandchildren, Brandon, Alan, Gage, Skyler and her nephew Steven Hess. AMELIA M. "MICKEY" SAUER, LAKE WALES, FLORIDA, FORMERLY OF PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK
Amelia M. ("Mickey") Sauer, 86 of Lake Wales, FL, formerly of Port Jervis, NY passed away on October 25 at Belle Reve Senior Care Facility in Milford, PA. Her death was the result of cancer which had rapidly spread throughout her body in the last several weeks. She died comfortably and peacefully with Russ Jr. and her granddaughter Amy Skellett, each holding one of her hands. Mickey joined her husband Russ who passed away June 29, 2012.
The daughter of Umberto and Concetta Savarese, Amelia was born August 23, 1926 in Corona, NY. She was a graduate of Bishop McDonnell HS, Brooklyn, NY. She was employed by Manufacturer's Trust Co, NYC where she met our dad, Russell F. Sauer. They married on April 29, 1951 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Corona, NY. They shared 61 years and six children together. Mickey and Russ resided in Deer Park, Long Island NY until 1957 when they moved their family to Port Jervis. They lived in PJ until 2001 then retired to Florida where they had a home in Saddlebag Lake Resort, Lake Wales. Mickey relocated to Milford in June 2012 after Russ passed away to be near her daughter Janet and son Kerry.
For 20 years Mickey was a secretary for the Port Jervis Urban Renewal/Community Development Agency. She retired in 1989 as executive secretary. She served as a "Gray Lady" for St. Francis Hospital and was a member of the PJ Heritage Commission. Mickey was a devout Catholic and a long-time parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis. She was very proud to have all of her children attend St. Mary's School until its closing.
Most importantly, she was a loving and devoted wife and mother, taking care of all our needs, leaving little time for herself. Although distance kept them apart "Nony" felt she was also blessed to have 18 grandchildren, all of whom she deeply missed. She never had the chance to know and enjoy her 6 great-grandchildren, as she was legally deaf and lost her sight in 2008. Nony had just learned that #7 would arrive in April. Nony loved all of her family!
She is survived by sons Russell Jr. and wife Marti Hodgdon of Agoura Hills, CA, Ronald of Englewood, CO, Kerry of Port Jervis, daughter Janet and husband Russ of Milford, PA and daughter-in-law Kim Sauer of Bel Air, MD; grandchildren Heather Rey, Jennifer Frady, Amy Skellett, Erin Finn, Kelly Sauer and their spouses; Dr. Scott, Megan,Michelle, Kevin, Morgan and Ryan Sauer, Kendall and Garrett Mello, Darren, Bryan and Kyle Smith, Erik and Matthew Decker; great-grandchildren Zachary and Cooper Rey, Myla Skellet, Griffin Frady and twins Kylie and Dylan Finn. Surviving also are sister-in-law Isa Savarese, and many nieces nephews and their families.
Mickey was predeceased by her parents, husband Russ, son Jeffrey Sauer, daughter Cynthia Decker, daughter-in-law Nancy Sauer, sister Theresa Guyre and her husband Joseph, brothers Anthony and his wife Lena, and Albert Savarese.
The Sauer Family would like to thank her dearest SLR friends Madeline Conway, and Lynn and Chuck Larson for the love, support and compassion for our mom, especially in recent months.

EVELYN M. HUNT, MATAMORAS, PENNSYLVANIA
Evelyn M. Hunt, age 86 of Matamoras, Penn., passed away Tuesday October 30, 2012 at Milford Senior Care, Milford, Penn. She was born on February 21, 1926 in Warwick, NY, the daughter of the late Andrew J. and Martha Vealey Houghtaling. After losing her mother at a very young age, Evelyn was raised by her father and step-mother Lottie Houghtaling. She worked as a medical secretary for Mercy Community Hospital in Port Jervis for over 23 years. Evelyn was a member of the Drew United Methodist Church in Port Jervis and attended the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church. She was a member and past Matron of the River Valley Chapter, O.E.S., #33, Port Jervis, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Mercy Community Hospital, a member and past treasurer of the Matamoras Senior Citizens, and a Past Jr. Deputy and State Senior Advisor of the Triangle Girls for the State of New York. Evelyn married Robert A. Hunt, who pre-deceased her on September 14, 2012. She is survived by her daughter, Donna M. Schields and her husband Lee of Matamoras, Pa., her son, James R. Hunt and his wife Patricia of Gold Key Lake, Pa., 6 grandchildren, Christopher Hunt, Alanna and Samantha Schields, Zachary, Matthew and Meaghan Hunt, 1 great grand daughter, Mia McFarlane and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brother Donald Houghtaling. Memorial services will be held Monday, November 5, at 2 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Rev. HELEN MAZURE, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK
Helen Mazure, age 92, of Port Jervis, NY and Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, October 31, at Unadilla, NY. She was born on October 29, 1920 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late George and Irene Check Krawiec. Helen married Joseph Mazure on August 5, 1939 in Athens, NY. He pre-deceased her on February 10, 2000. She was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis. Helen is survived by her daughter Sharon Frank and her husband William of Unadilla, NY, with whom she made her home for eight years, 2 grand daughters, Kathy Quick of Sebastian, Florida and Deanna Beter and her husband Dale of Wilmington, NC, 2 great grandchildren, Joseph and Emily, her brother, George Krawiec of Hobe Sound, Florida and several loving nieces and nephews. Helen loved to tell stories of her time in the 1960's, political arena and her days selling antiques.
