JOSEPH ROBERT MARSHALL, III

Joseph Robert Marshall, III August 29, 1923 – July 27, 2012 Joseph R. Marshall, III, better known as Joe, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on July 27, 2012. He was born in Corona, Long Island, New York to Joseph R. Marshall, II and Ruth Munson Marshall. After graduating high school he attended the Pratt Institute-School of Science and Technology for one year. His education was interrupted when war broke out and he was drafted into the armed services. He served his country in the US Army for three years during the Second World War. After leaving the army, Joe worked for Western Electric and New York Telephone (Ma Bell) as a central office switchman for 42 years. He was a member of Union 1107 and a former member of the Haverstraw Elks. In his later years, Joe became an avid “power” walker and spent his early mornings exercising on the streets of Port Jervis. He enjoyed reading, listening to music and in his earlier years, gardening. He loved the peace and tranquility of Sullivan County and up until recently, he spent much of his time frequenting different local eateries (coffee black, no spoon). He was predeceased by the love of his life, Dorothy (nee Dean) his wife of 56 years, his grand-daughters, Heather and Lynette and his “fourth daughter”, Donna. He leaves behind to cherish his memories his children Kathleen, Ellen and her husband Stephen, Joseph and his wife Cathy, and Dorothy; his 7 grand-children Tammy Dunlavey, Keriann Marshall, Bryan Huslinger, Shoix Marie and her husband Terrence Mallon, Stephen James Huslinger and his wife Misty, Katrina Marshall and Christopher Siegel and his 9 great grand-children Keith, Alyson, Damion, Elizabeth, Amelia, Kearsten, Brady, Alana and Gavin as well as his brother Skeets and his wife Rosie along with their children and grand-children. We’ll all miss you dearly, Daddy. God gave us memories so we could gather flowers in the winter. You left behind bouquets full. The family would like to extend their gratitude to all his physicians, to the staff at the Milford Senior Care Center and Rehab and to his friends at his favorite eateries who took the time to share a word with him and to look after him. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis, NY. Interment will take place on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Pinelawn Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Funeral arrangements are by the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis, NY.
