LILYAN BENNETT MULVANEY, SAFETY HARBOR, FLORIDA,

Lilyan Bennett Mulvaney died on January 25,2017 at Safety Harbor, Florida . Born in New York City on June 13, 1918, she lived with her Grandmother until she and her mother, Helen, left New York for an automobile trip to Florida in 1930. On route, in Swainsboro, Ga, they were both victims of an automobile accident which caused the immediate death of her Mother. Lilyan’s maternal Aunt then raised and sent her to the Academy of the Holy Child in Suffern, NY and later to Horace Mann School for Girls in New York. During World War II, the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps was begun and Lilyan enrolled in that program at Wagner College on Staten Island, NY graduating in 1946 with Bachelor of Science and Registered Nurse degrees. When Lilyan and her husband, Joe, were married in 1948, they lived in New Jersey where their daughter, Rosemary, was born. Three years later after Joe accepted a position with the Saudi Arabian Oil Co (Aramco), Rosemary and Lilyan joined him in Arabia. Rosemary fell ill with hepatitis and she was laid to rest October 9, 1960. As a family, they had enjoyed high adventure traveling throughout Europe while taking vacations back to the States. Lilyan remained in Saudi Arabia with her husband until, after 30 years of service, he retired in 1981. She feels she was granted many talents and felt that “from those to whom much is given, much is expected”. Upon return to the States she lived in Dunedin, FL., where she completed a Refresher Nurse Course. She taught and especially enjoyed all water sports. She was a student, reader and bridge player. She was a member of All Saint’s Catholic Church, FL. Lilyan is survived by her dearly loved husband, Joe, of 69 years of Palm Harbor, Florida.
