MARY VAN HOUTEN, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

Mary Van Houten age 95 of Port Jervis, NY passed away Monday, November 28, 2016 at her home. She was born on May 21, 1921 in New York City, NY the daughter of Thomas and Grace Spitaleri Incognito. She worked as a seamstress in Garfield, New Jersey. Mary married John Van Houten who pre-deceased her. She was an active member with the Ladies Auxiliary, Rosa-Fleming VFW Post #161, Port Jervis and the Port Jervis Senior Citizens. Mary is survived by her niece Angela Porcelli of Staten Island, her great nephew Andrew Porcelli , her great niece Donna Thompson Sclafani, several great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her step-son John VanHouten, Jr. and her step-daughter Joan Jordan. A. JOSEPH BRYK, HUGUENOT, NEW YORK

A. Joseph Bryk,84, of Huguenot, NY passed away Monday, November 22, 2016 at St. Joseph's Place, Port Jervis, NY. He was born on November 8, 1932 in Dupont, PA, the son of Stanley and Agnes Salach Bryk. Joe proudly served our country with the US Navy during the Korean War. He retired as manager from the Agway Store in Port Jervis. He then worked at the Orange County Landfill Facility. Joe was a faithful member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Port Jervis where he served on the Board of Trustees and participated in the Bible Study Group. His survivors include his children: Debra Hutt and her husband George of Hyde Park, NY and Stephen Bryk of Johnson, NY. Joe was predeceased by his wife, Janice Ryder Bryk in 2015. Also surviving is their son Anthony Bryk and his wife, Melissa of Georgia. Joe will also be missed by his three grandchildren; Kim Hutt Mayhew, Katie Hutt and Emerald Stowe; two great grandsons Branson and Zayden; sister-in-law Sharon Perna of Middletown; two nieces; and his special pets Oliver and Elsa. Joe was grateful for his church family and dear friends and neighbors who blessed him with their love and care. Memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, December 2, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, 60 Sussex St., Port Jervis, NY. Rev. Ann Akers will officiate. Jean M. Carpenter age 74 of Port Jervis, NY passed away on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. She was born on February 9, 1942 in Port Jervis, NY and is the daughter of the late Vernon and Florence Hawkins Carpenter. Jean worked as an assembly line worker at Kolmar Labs in Port Jervis, NY. She is survived by her husband James C. Carpenter who resides at home; two daughters: Victoria Lapriore and her husband Joseph of Athol, MA, and Kathy Carpenter of Middletown, NY; one son: James Carpenter, Jr. of Middletown, NY; one sister: Lorraine Decker and her husband William of New Smyrna Beach, FL; eight grandchildren: Jennifer Quiroga, Lauren and Jordan Lapriore, Tyler, Jeffrey, Heaven, Sabrina, and Joshua Carpenter; three great-grandchildren: Cindel, Ian, and Haley Quiroga; several nieces and nephews. Victory R. Kraus age 72 of Port Jervis, New York passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. She was born on April 16, 1944 in Queens, NY the daughter of Rudolph and Gertrude Kelsey Giananti. Victory retired as an occupational therapist at the Coler -Goldwater Hospital, Roosevelt Island, NY. She was a member of the Hope Evangelical Free Church in Matamoras, PA. She married Richard J. Kraus who pre-deceased her. Victory is survived by her two sons David J. Sardo and his companion Tracy Caggiano of Port Jervis, Dennis Sardo and his wife Nancy of Warwick, NY, her two sisters Marie and Ruth, eight grandchildren; David, Samantha, Katelyn, Michael, Johanna, Daniele, Justine and Kayla, her step-sons Richard Kraus of Long Island, Wayne Kraus and his wife Joan of Staten Island, her step-daughter Arlene Kraus of Las Vegas, Nevada, several nieces and nephews. Janet Arlene Price age 76 of Myrtle Beach, SC and formerly of Westbrookville, NY passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 17, 1940 in Goshen, NY the daughter of Charles and Marian Dunning Ringen. Janet retired as a Registered Nurse. She was a faithful member of the Otisville-Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church. Janet is survived by her son Michael W. Price and his wife Kelly of Pine Bush, NY, her daughter Staci Card and her husband Robert of Myrtle Beach, SC, her brother Robert Ringen and his wife Alice of Valatie, NY, her brother-in-law Richard Price and his wife Diane of Middletown, four grandchildren, Michael, Tiffany, Rachael, Kyle several nieces and nephews. Carlton W. Hillriegel age 81 of Yulan, NY passed away at Westchester Medical Center on Monday, November 21, 2016. He was born on October 25, 1935 in Margaretville, NY and is the son of the late Harold and Leona Wood Hillriegel. Carlton worked as a electrician at Reynolds Metal in Middletown, NY. He was a member of “FFA” Future Farmers Of America and a member of the Advent Christian Church of Margaretville, NY. WILLIAM R. MORGAN, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

William R. Morgan, 73, of Port Jervis, New York passed away on Sunday, November 20 at home. He was a lifelong resident of Port Jervis. Bill retired from the railroad after serving 40 years for NJ Transit, Conrail, Erie and Erie Lackawanna Railroads. He was a volunteer member of the Port Jervis Fire Department, a lifetime member of the Port Jervis Elks Club #645 and the Pole Bridge Hunting Club. He was a 4-year Varsity Letter Winner for Port Jervis High School in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track. He was married to Patricia H. Morgan who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughter Lisa M. Morgan of Milford, PA; his step-children Kimberly Stasa and her husband Jeffrey of Nazareth, PA, Kelly Murphy and her husband Steven of Souderton, PA and Kyle Aschoff of Lakeville, MN; his four grandchildren, Travis and Quinn Stasa and Reaghan and Patrick Murphy; and several cousins. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Mary Morgan, and his grandparents, Carrie and William Morgan. Visitation will be Friday, November 25 from 9:30am to 10:30AM with memorial services to follow at 10:30am at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St. Port Jervis. Rev. GASTON "LOU" GHEGAN, JR., MATAMORAS, PENNSYLVANIA

Gaston "Lou" Ghegan, Jr. age 73 of Matamoras, PA, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Middletown, NY. He was born on January 1, 1943 in Schuylkill, PA the son of Gaston Louis Ghegan, Sr. and Mary Braskie Ghegan. Lou owned and operated Mechanical Man Car Wash in Port Jervis and was the proprietor of Guardian Transmissions in Port Jervis. He proudly served our country with the U.S. Marines during the Vietnam War. He was and active member of the American Legion Post #2017 in Milford, a member of the Tri-State Naval Post #7241 in Port Jervis, and the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks, #645, B.P.O.E. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and a gentleman to all who knew him. He greeted everyone with a smile and will be deeply missed. Lou is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Giovanna "Joann" Casano Ghegan. He is also survived by his daughter, Lisa Ropke of Sparrowbush; his son, David Ghegan and his wife, Marsha of Los Angeles, CA; two grandchildren, Brad Louis Ropke and Justin Frederick Ropke; his brother, John Ghegan and his wife, Cathy of Croton-on-Hudson; his nephew, Jonathan and his niece, Katie. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Peter Richard Casano and his deeply loved son-in-law, Mark F. Ropke, who will greet him with a smile. WILLIS H. "BILL" SIMPSON, JR., PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

Willis H. "Bill" Simpson, Jr., age 82 of Port Jervis, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at Port Jervis. He was born on May 15, 1934 in Port Jervis the son of the late Willis H. Simpson, Sr. and Stella Tarket Simpson. Bill was a retired dairy farmer. He was a member of the Neversink Valley Grange in Huguenot, a member of the New York State Farm Bureau, a member of the National Holstein Assoc., a member of the National Brown Swiss Assoc, and an active member of Orange County 4-H Dairy. Bill married Patricia Mons Simpson who survives at home. He is also survived by his two sons Michael Simpson and his wife Valerie of Port Jervis, Kenneth Simpson of Milwaukee, Wisc., his brother Dr. Francis A. Simpson and his wife Lois of Port Jervis, two grandchildren Jennifer and Devon Simpson, his cousin Eileen Simpson of Huguenot, several nieces and nephews. Bill was pre-deceased by his son James H. Lorraine S. Richter, age 89 of Montague, New Jersey, passed away November 10, 2016 at Milford Senior Care, Milford, PA. She was born on May 26, 1927 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of Walter W. Sutton and Bessie Quick Sutton. Lorraine retired as a secretary from Kolmar Labs. Inc in Port Jervis. Lorrane was a faithful member of the Drew United Methodist Church, Port Jervis. She married Charles Richter who predeceased her. Lorraine is survived by several cousins and her special friends, Joyce and Richard Williams of Port Jervis. Timothy DeGraw, age 61 of Huguenot, NY passed away November 10, 2016 at Middletown, NY. He was born on February 14, 1955 in Port Jervis, the son of the late Nathaniel DeGraw and Barbara Ward DeGraw Oliver, who survives. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. He enjoyed the great outdoors and was an an avid hunter. Tim married Kimberly Aumick DeGraw who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Craig DeGraw at home; two daughters, Kelly Breitweiser and her husband, Frank of Cuddebackville and Megan Spangenberg and her husband John of Sparrowbush; his mother, Barbara Oliver of Golden Valley, AZ; his brothers, Nate DeGraw and his wife, Joellen of Matamoras, Edward DeGraw of Ogdensburg, NY, John DeGraw of Las Vegas; his sisters: Colleen Smithson and her husband, Larry of Las Vegas, Melissa Lopez and her husband, Ruben of Phoenix, AZ; his grandchildren: Emily and Erin Maillet, Brendan and Aiden Breitweiser, Tyler, Annalyce and Logan DeRosa; his great grandson, Noah Mann; several aunts, uncles, cousin, nieces and nephews. Mary A. Rombousek age 92 a life long resident of Port Jervis, NY passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at her home. She was born in Port Jervis, NY on August 1, 1924 the daughter of James Bruno Andriack and Mary Valenti Andriack. Mary was baptized at St. Mary’s Church and was a faithful lifetime communicant. Mary was a devoted wife and mother. She married Frank W. Rombousek, Jr. who pre-deceased her in 1975. Mary is survived by her loving son Thomas Rombousek at home, several nieces and nephews including Michelle Elia Hagerty, Dolores Hodges and Philip Ingrassia. Mary was the last surviving and youngest of eleven children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Friday, November 11, 2016 at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Port Jervis. Rev. Philip worked as a trackman for the Erie Railroad in Port Jervis. He married Shirley Towsend Conklin who predeceased him. Port Jervis Police, Port Jervis Fire Departments, New York State Police, New Jersey Police, Orange County Sheriffs, New York Patriots Riders Guard, Warriors Watch Riders, North East, Penna., United States Military, and the Blue Knights of New Jersey…Clearing all roads and highways from Port Jervis, New York to Newark Airport and back to bring Pfc. William Vito Giovanniello home, was outstanding. Our community always comes together, from lining the streets with welcoming yellow ribbons to the outpouring of bystanders. Our community gave an outstanding welcome home. Stan Siegel organizing the fleet of our fire department trucks to escort us into Port Jervis had a special impact on bringing Pfc. Giovanniello home. Sharon Siegel and her expertise of journalism gives the Giovanniello family an everlasting treasured memory. From our experience, it was amazing, emotional, overwhelming and inspirational. PFC WILLIAM VITO GIOVANNIELLO, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

PFC William Vito Giovanniello, was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Rocco and Elisabetta (Isabella) Saulle Giovanniello on September 27, 1928. Previously known as an Army MIA from the Korean War, William has recently been positively identified as killed in action on April 25, 1951 in Yangmun-ni, Pammol, Republic of Korea, just south of the DMZ. His active service date began November 1, 1950. Until now, PFC Giovanniell’s remains were referred to as “unknown X-1219” and for the majority of time, has been interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, HI. Family had always hoped and prayed William would return, sadly his parents and brothers wishes were fulfilled after their passing. He only got to meet one niece and nephew, Elizabeth Giovanniello Kendall and Rocco Giovanniello, as they were the only two born before he was deployed to Korea. The rest of his family learned about their fun loving uncle from photographs and wonderful stories told by his brothers. Survivors include: Nine nieces and nephews: Children of brother, Isidore and Mary Giovanniello: Elizabeth Giovanniello Kendall and husband, Duane Rocco Giovanniello and wife, Annmarie Dominic Giovanniello and wife, Jill Anna Giovanniello Drapala and husband, Steve Children of brother, Domenick and Josephine Giovanniello: Rocco William Giovanniello and wife, Margaret Lisa Giovanniello Cuccio and husband, Peter Diane Giovanniello Rumsey and husband, Corey Children of brother, Vincent and Edith Giovanniello: Barbara Giovanniello Tilelli and husband, Joseph Vincent Giovanniello, Jr. and wife, Debbie Twelve great-nieces, seven great-nephews, and a number of great-great nieces and nephews. Three sisters-in-law: Mary, Josephine and Edith Giovanniello. Four first cousins: Santa Giovanniello, Mary Connors Giovanniello, Frank Labianca and wife, Ann, and Dominick Labianca and wife, Carol Ann. In addition to his parents, other deceased family members are brothers: Isidore, Domenick, Vincent and “Baby" Anthony. Our family would like to take this opportunity to thank all those friends who are helping us welcome our hero soldier home. We are grateful for the Yellow Ribbon Campaign and all the love and caring shown by the Port Jervis community and beyond. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2016, from 2-6 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home. 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Private funeral services will be held for family members on Thursday at the funeral home. The public and friends are welcome to attend internment services 12 o'clock noon at St. Mary's Cemetery on East Main St., Port Jervis, on Thursday, November 10, with Military Honors. His final resting place will be near his brother, Isidore's gravesite. Memorial donations can be made to the Roosa Fleming VFW Post #161, 41-47 Owen St., Port Jervis, NY 12771, or contributions to the William V. Giovanniello Memorial Fund, c/o Gio's Gelato Cafe, 31 Pike St., Port Jervis, NY 12771, to help family with non-covered expenses.
