Gilbert C. Caron, Jr., age 66, of Port Jervis, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis.He was born on November 27, 1942, the son of the late Charlotte Stoughton Caron.Gilbert was a packager for Delaware Valley Nut & Bolt Co., Montague, NJ and an assembler and packager for Wilder Manufacturing in Port Jervis. He was a member of the Wickham Methodist Church, Port Jervis and a choir member of the church. He was also a member of the Sussex County High Point Harmonizers and the Port Jervis Tri-State Barber Shop Chorus. Gilbert was a graduate of the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA.Gilbert is survived by many close friends, his church families of the Drew United Methodist Church and the Wickham Methodist Church, and the people of the City of Port Jervis.Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 29, at 11 a.m. at the Wickham Methodist Church, 32 Bruce St., Port Jervis. Dorothy E. Wieboldt, age 102, of the Town of Greenville, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis.She was born on January 1, 1907 in the Town of Greenville, NY, the daughter of the late George and Sadie Clark Soudant.Dorothy was married to the late Ernest G. Wieboldt, together they owned and operated their own Dairy Farm in the Town of Greenville. She was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church and a Founder and Charter Member and past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Greenville Fire Dept. Dorothy was also a member of the Greenville Seniors.Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Robert Wieboldt and his wife, Shirley of the Town of Greenville and Gerald "Bud" Wieboldt and his wife, Kathleen of Westfall Township, PA; her six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Visitation and funeral services will be private at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Thomas R. Conklin, Sr., age 81, of Port Jervis, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis.He was born on March 12, 1928 at Cuddebackville, NY, the son of the late Roy and Ada Rose Conklin.Tom was a retired Supervisor and Firefighter at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, NJ. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly serving our country during World War II. He is a member of the Marsch-Kellogg American Legion Post #139, Milford, PA and an Honorary Life Member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Lakewood Elks Lodge #1432, B.P.O.E., Lakewood, NJ.Tom was married to the late Donna Orchid Conklin and the late Ann Ryker Conklin. He married Beth E. Dirk Conklin, who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Thomas R. Conklin, Jr. and his wife, Carrie of Lafayette, GA; his daughter, Cathy Conklin of Jackson, NJ; his stepdaughter, Laura Conklin and her husband, Bill of Lake Wallenpaupack, PA; his stepsons, Michael Gumble of Bushkill, PA and Robert Gumble and his wife, Diana of Dingmans, PA; two sisters, Vivian Shaffer-Reeves of Port Jervis and Irma Pagano and her husband, Bill of Port Jervis; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Charles Meli of Montague, NJ and Glenn Dirk of Tafton, PA. Marilyn B. Sandberg, age 78, of Dingmans Township, PA, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis.She was born on September 18, 1930 in Guttonberg, NJ, the daughter of the late John F. Brennan and Marie T. Haberstroh Brennan.Marilyn was a retired Legal Secretary for Dwyer, Dwyer & Dwyer, Attorneys at Law in Ridgewood, NJ. She married Alfred W. GERALD E. HILL, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK
Gerald E. Hill, age 91, of Port Jervis, passed away Monday, May 18, 2009 at Milford Senior Care, Westfall Township, PA.He was born on February 25, 1918 in Port Jervis, NY, the son of the late Emmett and Marjorie Dolan Hill. He married Mary Kuziw on September 25, 1946, celebrating 62 years of marriage. Mary passed away on April 23, 2009.Gerald joined the U.S. Navy in 1935, serving our country during World War II in the South Pacific mainly on the destroyer the USS Stack, and was discharged in 1946 before reenlisting in 1949. He was the U.S. Navy recruiter in Port Jervis from 1955-1957 before his final discharge in 1959. He then became a Correction Officer for the State of New York until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis, Port Jervis Lodge of Elks #645 B.P.O.E. and the Tri-Sate Naval Ship #7241, Port Jervis.He is survived by his two daughters, Geraldine Hill Romeo and her husband, John of Port Jervis and Kathleen Hill McGee and her husband, Donald of Cranford, NJ. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Kathleen and Anne McGee; his brother-in-law, George Pomes; and many nieces and nephews. Douglas Franklyn Cherry of Winston Salem, NC, formerly of Port Jervis and Montgomery, NY, passed away at his home with loved ones by his side on May 12, 2009. He was 75 years old.He was born February 8, 1934 in Port Jervis, NY, the son of the late Franklyn L. Cherry and Margaret Aughton Cherry.He attended Port Jervis High School where he graduated in 1952. He attended the State University of New York at Delhi where he majored in Building Construction and Drafting. He later attended New York University and the State University of New York at Albany to obtain his teaching credentials.After being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1954, he spent most of his time working at surveying and communications. He particularly enjoyed his time in Germany building bridges on the Rhine with the Army Corps of Combat Engineers.After being honorably discharged from the Army he continued working for his father's construction company, where he had worked since the age of 16. He began his teaching career at the New York State School for Boys in New Hampton, until he was hired by Orange-Ulster BOCES, where he started the building construction program. He remained with Orange-Ulster BOCES, where he also established a placement coordinator position which he held until leaving BOCES. He later operated a dairy farm in the Town of Crawford. He and his wife Marylou also owned and operated an Adult Care Home taking care of AHRC residents and VA patients. He was a member of Scotchtown Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and Director of Christian Education.From the time Doug was a child, he loved horses. He owned and cared for several over the course of his lifetime. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was always interested in technology and was an avid Amateur Radio operator since earning his license in 1963. He was always a teacher at heart, teaching anyone he came in contact with. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, and enjoyed the time he had with them.He is survived by his wife, Marylou of Winston-Salem, NC; his three children: Michael Cherry and his wife, Moncia of Huguenot, Franklyn Cherry of Montgomery, and Melanie Cherry-Conklin and her husband, E. Joseph Conklin of Winston-Salem, NC; his grandchildren: Michael, Echo, and Kalista; his canine companion, Hudson; his sister, Diane Archer of Dansville; several cousins, nieces and nephews.Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 22, at 10:30 a.m. at Drew United Methodist Church, Sussex St., Port Jervis, NY, with The Rev. Christina Canzio, born in Buckhaven, Fife, Scotland on April 8, 1925, went Home on Friday, May 15, 2009. She died in the comfort of her own home.Born Christina Kilpatrick, she was the daughter of Robert and Isabella Eason Kilpatrick. She was the widow of Michael Canzio, who died in 1987.Christina was predeceased by her daughter, Angela; her brothers, Robert and Andrew, and her sisters, Margaret and Betty.Survivors include her daughter, Linda Onofry and her husband, Richard; her daughter, Pat DeMono and her husband, Bob; ten grandchildren: James Curcuruto of Peekskill, Kara Raap and her husband, Mike, of Mount Hope, Kalyn, Lauren, Robert and Joseph DeMono of Port Jervis, Scott Onofry and his wife, Christina of Maybrook, Craig and Megan Onofry of Port Jervis, and one great-grandchild, Noah Knesel of Mount Hope.She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Port Jervis; Deacon of the church and member of the Lunch Bunch. Christina was also a member of the Deerpark Seniors.Our mother loved garage sales and playing Scrabble, but mostly she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She was so very proud of each of them.Following Mum's wishes, there will be no visitation, and she will be cremated. Kean, Sr. and Frances Theresa O'Neill Kean.Cy was a retired Locomotive Engineer for Conrail Railroad, Hoboken, NJ. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis. He proudly served our country with the First Division, 16th Infantry, U.S. Army in an area north of Saigon, during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Roosa-Fleming V.F.W. Post #161, Port Jervis, and the Vietnam Veterans of America. Cy loved to run and ran in the New York City Marathon.Cyrus married Christina Nowik Kean, who survives at home. He is also survived by his son, Ryan Kean and his companion, Lachlan of Port Jervis; five brothers: John J. Gladys I. Karr, age 90, of Matamoras, PA, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at Middletown Park Manor, Middletown, NY.She was born in Sparrowbush, NY on August 12, 1918, the daughter of the late Fred and Lila Adams Robinson.Gladys was a retired assembler for Kolmar Labs, Inc., Port Jervis, NY. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Matamoras, PA for many years. Gladys married Ronald C. Karr, who predeceased her.She is survived by her daughter, Janice Kinney and her husband, John of Montgomery, NY; three grandchildren: Timothy Kinney and his wife, Zoe, Kathryn O'Donoghue and her husband, Kevin, and Lyndsey Karr; two great-grandchildren, Desmond and Deirdre; her sister, Harriet McAllister of Port Jervis; several nieces and nephews. Gladys was predeceased by two sons, Wayne and Joel; her infant child and two brothers, Edward and Lester Robinson.Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery, Sparrowbush, NY with Rev. GENEVIEVE "GEN" THIELE, GLEN SPEY, NEW YORK
Genevieve "Gen" Thiele, 81, of Glen Spey, NY, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009 at the Morristown General Hospital, Morristown, NJ.She was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 24, 1928, the daughter of the late William and Helen Tiedeman Schneider.Gen was a retired Town Clerk for the Town of Lumberland and also worked as a bus driver transporting students from the Eldred Central School to St. Mary's School in Port Jervis. She married Howard Thiele who survives at home and on October 15, 2008 celebrated 59 years of marriage.She is also survived by two daughters, Helen Sherman and her husband, Leigh of Glen Spey and Maryann "Pudge" Cullin and her husband, Mark of Port Jervis; two sons, Kenneth Thiele and his wife, Joyce of Matamoras, PA and Robert Thiele and his companion, Sue Vanderwiele of Eldred; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, William Schneider and her sister, Dorothy Fagley.Gen was a member of the Town of Lumberland Republican Committee; member of the Lumberland Seniors, and former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lumberland Fire Dept.A family statement reads: "Gen was admired by many for being well organized, her "busy hands", exquisite needle work, sewing and her creativity."Honoring Gen's wishes, there will not be a public visitation. A celebration of her life will be held at a Memorial Service on Thursday evening, May 7, at 6 p.m. at the Pond Eddy United Methodist Church, Pond Eddy, NY. Rev. Nancy Vonderhorst will officiate. Anne T. Serry, age 78, of Matawan, NJ, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at St. Michael's Medical Center, Newark, NJ.She was born on June 30, 1939 at Orange, NJ, the daughter of the late Matthew and Marion O'Connor Seery.Anne was a retired programmer for Bell Labs and Lucent Technology, at Holmdel, NJ. She was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Keyport, NJ.Anne is survived by her sister, Eileen Folina and her husband, Eugene of Port Jervis, NY; one nephew, Matthew; two nieces, Kathryn and Janet.Prayers will be offerd on Thursday, April 30, at 10:15 a.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E.Main St., Port Jervis, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Matamoras, PA, with The Rev. August Ricciardi as celebrant.
