DOROTHY "DOLLY" G. MARTEL, GREENVILLE, NEW YORK
Dorothy G. Martel (nee DiCrosta), known to all as Dolly, of Greenville, NY, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in Greenville, TN.Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Dolly is survived by her loving and devoted husband, John T. Martel, a retired New Jersey Transit Conductor, known to all as Jack; her five children: Carlton Vogt of Warwick, NY, Donna Downing of Ridgewood, NJ, John Martel, Jr. of Matamoras, PA, James Martel of Palm Bay, FL and Dawn Signiski of Ringgold, GA; her 21 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her twin sister, Jeanne Rathjen of Mesa, AZ and her younger sister, Shirley Dawson of Wayne, NJ. She was predeceased by her parents, Alfred DiCrosta and Madeline DiCrosta (nee Scoskie) of Lodi, NJ.Dolly spent her life helping people. She was an RN retired from Saint Clare's Hospital, Sussex, NJ, who took care of everyone she knew. Linda A. Card, age 67, of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY.Linda was born on August 28, 1941 in Port Jervis, the daughter of the late Willard and Helen Tompkins Kadel.She married Robert G. Card, who predeceased her on November 18, 1997. She attended the First Baptist Church in Port Jervis.She is survived by two sons, Robert Card and his wife, Staci of Glen Spey, NY and David Card of High Point, NC; three daughters, Valarie Cofill and her husband, Randall of Pine Bush, NY, Vicki Engelhart and her husband, Todd of Glen Spey, and Vanessa Miller and her husband, Lynne of Milford, PA; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. DR. JAMES E. BYRNE, MOORE TOWNSHIP, PA.
Dr. James E. Byrne, age 65, of Moore Township, PA passed away suddenly Friday, September 19, 2008 at his home.He was born on November 27, 1942 in Bryn Mawr, PA., the son of the late Harry C. and Eleanor Young Byrne.Dr. Byrne, an Oral and Maxillo-Facial surgeon was a graduate of Bowdoin College in Maine and continued his education at North Western University Dental School, Chicago. He then completed his education at the University of Chicago Medical School where he attained his degrees in Oral Surgery and Medicine. Dr. Byrne was the Secretary of Moore Township Zoning Board of Appeals. He was past president of the Lehigh Valley Wood Turners. He was known as a maker of Windsor chairs, for his superb photography, skilled gardener and a talented and avid wood turner. He was also a generous teacher and true friend.He is survived by his loving companion, Judith Rodwin at home; his son, David Austin and his wife, Mary of Northampton, PA; his sister, Pamela Easly and her husband, Jack of Clarendon Hills, IL; a granddaughter, Samantha Austin; his nephew, Britton Goode, and several cousins.Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 24, at 11 a.m. at Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, NY. The Rev. Dona M. Jacobs Kurtz, age 61, late of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis.She was born in Sparrowbush, NY on November 5, 1946, the daughter of the late Daniel and Esther DeGroat Jacobs.Dona was an assembler for Kolmar Labs in Port Jervis.A family statement reads: "Dona was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Dona enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. She loved to sew, craftmaking, and volunteered her time to many organizations."She married David A. Kurtz Sr., who predeceased her.Dona is survived by her two sisters, Gale Witkowski and Danella Jacobs of Port Jervis; two daughters, Georgieann Quick and her husband, Ivan Sr. and Billie-Jo Mann, all of Port Jervis; two sons, David A. George Hazelton, Jr., age 88, a lifetime resident of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Monday, September 15, 2008 at The James Square Health & Rehabilitation Center, Syracuse, NY.He was born in Newburgh, NY on October 30, 1919, the son of the late George and Lena Hazleton.He was a retired Railroad Engineer with the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad, Port Jervis, NY, and a home builder. George was a graduate of the New York State Ranger School, a branch of Syracuse University with honors in 1941. He joined the Navy Seabees in 1941 and served four years in the South Pacific, during World War II, and was a topographic engineer with the 5th Battalion, trained by the US Marines.He married Irene Middleton Hazelton, who predeceased him.He is survived by his granddaughter, Rebecca Melick and her husband, Bruce of Jamesville, NY; his grandson, Jeffrey House and his wife, April of Rochester, NY; his son-in-law, Thomas House and his wife, Kathy of Baldwinsvile, NY; five great grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Luke, Alaina, and Kaitlyn and several nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia House.Friends may call Friday, September 19, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Joseph W. Doss, age 61, late of Sparrowbush, NY, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2008 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, NY.Son of the late Raymond V. Doss and Nettie Swanerbury Doss, he was born September 23, 1946 in Port Jervis, NY. He was married to Barbara Hulse Doss.He was a retired employee of the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving our country for two years (1966 - 1968).A family statement reads: "He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and he will be greatly missed."Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hulse Doss of Sparrowbush; two sons, Steven Doss and his wife, Lori of Port Jervis, and Brian Doss and his wife, Tracie of Port Jervis; two sisters, Jean Polito of Richmond, VA, and Marjorie Hovencamp of Huguenot, NY; four grandchildren: Sarah and Stephanie Doss and Kristen and Courtney Doss; several beloved nieces and nephews.Visitation will be held at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. Errico "Amil" Caldropoli, 97, a 25 year resident of Sparrowbush, NY, died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at Twin Cedars Assisted Living in Shohola, PA.The son of the late Leonardo Caldropoli and Ernilinda Bruno, he was born October 5, 1910 in N.Y.C. He was the husband of the late Marie L. Chevrette Caldropoli. He was a member of the Deerpark Seniors Club and Most Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Port Jervis.He is survived by one son, Richard Caldropoli and wife, Roberta of Sparrowbush, NY; two daughters, Mary Rose Martin of Timonium, MD and Gloria Jean Grace and husband, Richard of Martinsville, NJ; one sister, Alvera Argento of Las Vegas, NV; 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Sharon B. Willis, 62, late of Matamoras, PA went home to be with the Lord and her family in heaven on Saturday, September 6, 2008.Sharon was born on July 25, 1946 in Matamoras, PA, the daughter of the late Robert B. and Irma A. Treible Mineau.Sharon worked for the Jamesway Department Store in Montague for many years, and then as an assembler for Kolmar Labs, Inc., in Port Jervis. Sharon was member of the Hope Evangelical Free Church, Matamoras, PA , a member of the Board of Directors of the Church and a longtime Sunday School teacher at Hope Church.She married Thomas J. Willis, who survives. She is also survived by her sister, Lorraine Matthews of Montague, NJ; three step-children, Mary, Donna and Tomi; her niece, Vikki Hendershot and her husband, Bill of Montague; two nephews, David Matthews of the State of Florida and Robert Mineau and his family of Goshen, NY and her great nephew, Billy Hendershot.She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Mineau; her brother-in-law, Robert Blumhagen and Ellwood and Ethel Lester, with whom Sharon resided with most of her life before marriage and considered them her second parents.Friends may call Tuesday, September 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. LOUIS L. RAU, MONTAGUE, NEW JERSEY
Louis L. Rau, age 93, late of Montague, NJ passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008 at Belle Reve, Milford, PA.He was born on July 19, 1915 at Hoboken, NJ. Lou was a retired Food Supervisor for the State of New Jersey, at the Annandale Unit, Stokes, High Point, NJ. He proudly served our country with the U.S. Coast Guard, during WW II. Lou was a former Constable for Montague Township, and an exempt fireman, Hillside Fire Dept, Hillside, NJ, a former member of the Port Jervis Country Club, and a "Club Ranger". Golf was Lou's favorite pastime, he especially enjoyed golfing with former Police Chief, Frank Massanotti. Lou was resident of the area for the past 50 years and made many friends.A quote from his dear friend, Mary Billman read, "To have Love is a special thrill, but to give Love is more precious still."He is survived by his loving companion and caregiver, Mary Billman and his good friends Ed and Joanna Muhlbeck.Visitation and Funeral Services will be private. He married Antoinette Marino Mastrianni who predeceased him.He is survived by his son, Gerald Mastrianni and his wife, Marie of North Carolina; two sisters, Maria Cardone and Antoinete Majersky; two brothers, Carmine and Louis Mastrianni; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
