CHARLES "BRAD" TIPPENS, SPARROWBUSH, NEW YORK

Charles "Brad" Tippens, a longtime resident of Sparrowbush, died Monday, December 24, 2007, at Milford Senior Care Facility. He was 77.He was the son of the late Millard F. and Emma Tippens. He was born April 17, 1930 in Paden City, WV.He retired from Gillinder Glass Co. in Port Jervis, NY. A Korean War Veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served from 1951-1954. He was a life member and past Captain of Tri-State Naval Ship #7241. Brad was a avid golfer and bowler.He is survived by his wife, at home, Jean M. Bachelder Tippens; two stepdaughters, Charlene Flieger and her husband, Charles of Sparrowbush, NY, and Nita Taylor and her husband, Bernard of Newport News, VA; stepson, Hollis Farr of Westbrookville, NY; one sister, Barbara Todd and husband, Tracy of Port Jervis; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, John Tippens and sister, Dorothy Mae Hollawell.Memorial services will be announced at a later date by the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, and will be held at the Tri-State Naval Ship #7241, 46 Barcelow St., Port Jervis, NY. IRENE G. ROSS, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

Irene G. Ross, age 95 late of Port Jervis, NY passed away on Sunday, December 23 2007 at Care-One at Wall Nursing Facility in Wall, NJ.A life-long resident of the area, she was born in Port Jervis, NY on September 18, 1912. She was the daughter of the late John W. & Christine Ness Norman. Irene co-owned Ross Awnings Co. in Port Jervis with her late husband, F. Raymond Ross. Irene was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis, the Gray Ladies Volunteers at St. Francis Hospital in Port Jervis, member and vice-president of the Port Jervis Business & Professional Women, AARP, and she was an active member of the D&H Square Dancers in Port Jervis. She is survived by her son, Raymond Lee Ross of Neptune, NJ; two daughters, Linda Aschoff of Port Jervis, and Pamela Jerger and her husband Robert of Edgewater, FL.; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by nine brothers.Friends may call prior to services on Saturday, December 29 at Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St. in Port Jervis, NY.Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 29 at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Rural Valley Cemetery. TOMAS M. QUEVEDO, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

Tomas M. Quevedo, age 71, late of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Friday, December 21, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. Tom was a retired water quality control engineer for Kolmar Labs, Inc., Port Jervis. He was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on March 7, 1936, the son of Ada Quevedo Leon Fuentes. He married Margaret Howell Quevedo, who survives. He served during the Korean War with the US Air Force as air police and honor guard. He was a member of the James C. Bilz American Legion Post, Port Jervis and was an active member of the Neighborhood Watch. Tom played Triple A Baseball and throughout his entire life played softball with several local teams. He attended the Deerpark Reformed Church in Port Jervis.He is survived by his wife, Margaret Howell Quevedo at home; his mother, Ada Fuentes of Port Jervis; two sons, John Quevedo of Port Jervis and Robert Case and his wife Dolores of Port Jervis; his daughter, Jacqueline Schutter and her husband Rev. Dr. William Schuttter of Rocky Hill, NJ; one sister, Miriam Machado of Port Jervis; eight grandchildren, Roger, Loni, Kelsie, Yann, Yolande, Senia, Jade, Benjamin; and several nieces and nephews.Friends may call Thursday, December 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. ALICE B. LONG, MATAMORAS, PA.

Alice B. Long, age 68, of Matamoras, PA, a life-long resident of the area, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, NY. Alice was the manager of the Jewelry Dept. at K-Mart Stores, Westfall, PA. She was the daughter of the late Edwin and Beatrice Schneider Strait, born in Port Jervis, NY on May 2, 1939. She is survived by her former husband, Robert F. Long; three sons, Robert Long and his wife Jill of Downington, PA, Brian Long and his wife Pam of Port Jervis, NY, Phil Long and his wife Wendi of Oxford, PA; her sister, Maryann Brigham of Port Jervis; her brother, Jim Pollard of Matamoras, PA; four grandchildren, Madison, Molly, Nicole and Zoe; one great-granddaughter, Alexa; her aunt, Gertrude Zwirz of Matamoras, PA; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Harold Strait; and her grandson, Kristopher Long. Memorial services will be held Friday, December 29 at 1:30 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Marjorie H. Chant, 83, of Port Jervis, NY, passed away Friday, December 21, 2007 at St. Teresa's Nursing Home, Middletown, NY.Marjorie retired from the dietary dept at Mercy Community Hospital, Port Jervis. A life-long resident of the area, Marjorie was born in Port Jervis, NY on October 17, 1924, the daughter of the late Philip and Margaret Austin Kelch.She was married to the late Benjamin A. Chant. She was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis; Port Jervis Seniors; and the National AARP. MARYELLEN KRAUSE, MATAMORAS, PA.

Maryellen Krause, a life-long resident of Matamoras, PA died on Monday, December 17, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis. She was 92.The daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy McKean Shadler, she was born October 30, 1915 in Barryville, NY. Her husband, Lester C. Krause, predeceased her. She is survived by one daughter, Marie Sherlock & her husband Joseph of Matamoras, PA; three sons: Duane Krause & his wife Sharon of Manchester, CT, Alan Krause & his wife Lori of Tuckahannock, PA., and Kenneth Krause & his wife Michelle of Matamoras, PA; six grandchildren: Mark Krause, Sherry Duvall, Stacie Brown, Kenneth Krause, Joseph Sherlock, and Bruce Pedersen; eight great-grandchildren: Christianna, Amanda, Joshua, Harlan, Justin, Caitlin, Melissa and Michael; one niece and two nephews. Emily Dunn, 82 of Sykesville, MD and formerly of Port Jervis, NY, died Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Brinton Woods Nursing Center in Sykesville, MD.Born June 4, 1925 in Port Jervis, NY, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Fannie (nee Trillio) Sarro. She was the wife of the late Walter Dunn. She was a homemaker for most of her life.She is survived by son, Robert Dunn of Sykesville, MD; daughter, Nancy Dunn of Sykesville, MD; sister, Lena Ketcham of Port Jervis, NY; grandchildren, Miles Dunn, Amber Dunn, Jennifer Forte, Lauren Forte, Lauren Forte, and great-grandson, Wyatt. RICHARD S. MALLON, MATAMORAS, PA.

Richard S. Mallon, a retired switchman for New York Telephone Company in Brooklyn and 21-year area resident, died Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Milford Senior Care in Milford, PA. He was 79.The son of the late Francis and Alice Kinney Mallon, he was born January 30, 1928 in New York City.He was a member of St. Joseph's RC Church, Matamoras, PA. He's a veteran of WW II, serving in the US Navy.Survivors include his wife, Alice Gorman Mallon at home; three sons, Richard Mallon and his wife Janet of Shelton, CT, Brian Mallon of Melrose, MA and David Mallon and his wife Lydia of East Northport, NY; two daughters, Virginia Ackermann and her husband Arthur of Northport, NY, Claire Rilling and her husband Paul of Hicksville, NY; eight grandchildren, Terence, Caroline, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Patrick, Conor, Caitlin and Kevin.Friends may call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Saturday, December 15 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. KATHERINE S. HAAS, YULAN, NEW YORK

Katherine S. Haas, a retired manager and bookkeeper of the Colonial Boarding House and caregiver of her daughter Kathy for many years, entered into rest peacefully December 2, 2007 at Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris. She was 79. A lifelong resident of Yulan, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Hensel and Lisette Galm Hensel, born April 5, 1928 in Yulan.Katie was a graduate and valedictorian of the Class of 1946, Eldred Central School.A family statement reads, "Kate was an incredible mother, grandmother and friend who welcomed all who came into her home with open, loving arms. Her smile and infectious laugh will be remember by many whose lives she touched."Survivors include her husband, Richard F. Haas; three sons, Terry Haas and wife Kathy of Eldred, Richard Haas and wife Cheryl of Yulan and Bruce Haas and wife Rose of Vero Beach, Fla.; sister, Helen Oset and husband Chet of Yulan; six grandchildren, Erika Haas, Brian Haas and wife Amanda, Jason Haas and wife Kristen, Justin Haas, Jamie Haas and wife Melissa, Mallory Haas; and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathy.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at a later date at St. Anthony's RC Church, Yulan.
