Irene C. Miller, 86, a lifelong resident of the area and a retired School Teacher for the Port Jervis School District, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at Belle Reve in Milford, Pa.She was born in Matamoras, Pa. on August 30, 1920 to the late Bernard J. and Rose Berger Miller.She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, Port Jervis, N.Y. and member of the NYS Retired Teacher's Association.Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Eileen Bowie, Ann Mayes, Janet Killian, Robert Miller, Lewis Miller, Margery Lueders, and Rosemarie Lee; and her sister-in-law, Inez Miller. She was predeceased by her three brothers, Theodore Miller, Leonard and Harold Miller.Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras, Pa with the Rev. BIRD, JANET D., SPARROWBUSH, NEW YORK
Janet D. Bird, a lifelong resident of the area, died Saturday, April 14, 2007 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y. She was 68.Daughter of the late Carlton and Grace Brevort Durfey, she was born March 7, 1939 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.Janet was a retired Dietary Aide for the Port Jervis School District at the Hamilton Bicentennial School. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church in Port Jervis. She was a 40-year member of the River Valley Chapter #33, Order of the Eastern Star. She spent 20 years singing with the Sweet Adelines and competed in regional competitions and sang with award-winning choruses.A family statement reads: "She was a loving wife, mother and devoted grandmother. She loved traveling, singing and being with her granddaughters."Survivors include her husband, David Bird, whom she married on August 18, 1962; three sons: Howard D. Bird and his wife, Carolyn of Dingmans Ferry, Pa., Carlton D. Bird and his wife, Paula of Otisville, and Thomas B. Bird of Howells; mother-in-law, Mary A. Bird of Wappingers, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Priscila A. Wendover; two granddaughters, Sarah Grace Bird and Kaitlyn Mary Bird, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas D. Durfey.Friends may call at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. Maybert A. Crane, age 88, late of Matamoras, Pa., a retired assembler at Kolmar Labs. Inc., Port Jervis, N.Y., passed away Monday, March 26, 2007 at Ellen Memorial Home, Honesdale, Pa.The daughter of the late James and Helen Simpson Arthur, was born in December 29, 1918 at Carbondale, Pa. She was married the late Robert Crane.She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Matamoras, Pa.; member of the Wonder Workers at the church and the United Methodist Women; member of River Valley Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #33, Port Jervis; The Harriett Green, O.E.S., Hamlin, Pa.; and the Daughters of America, Jr. Delight Council #29, Port Jervis, N.Y.Maybert is survived by three sons: Robert A. Crane, of Virginia Beach, Va., James R. Crane and his wife, Joyce of Denver, Co., and Raymond Crane and his wife, Mare Jane of Pittsburgh, Pa.; five sisters: Frances Weiss of Hawley, Pa., Helen Hofler of Beach Lake, Pa., Jeannette Warner of Hawley, Pa., Gail Turner of Columbus, Ga., and Hazel Arthur of Honesdale, Pa.: seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, June Blair Crane and by her brother, James Arthur.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the Knight Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis, N.Y. GODBY, EDWIN "BILL", MATAMORAS, PA.
Edwin "Bill" Godby, a lifelong resident of the area, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at his home. He was 83.The son of the late Roy and Anna Keifer Godby, he was born February 10, 1924 in Newark, N.J.He married Anita Barnes Godby on September 8, 1962Bill owned and operated his own outdoor maintenance/landscaping business for 28 years. Bill was a 51 year member of the Westfall Fire Dept., and a member of the Marsch-Kellog American Legion Post #139, Milford, Pa. Bill proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, during World War II and Korea. Most of his time was spent aboard the U.S.S. Pheasant Minesweeper as an Engineman. He earned numerous commendations during his service, including The World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, European African Theatre Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.Survivors include his wife at home, Anita Barnes Godby; one daughter, Beth Koferl and her husband, Bill of Matamoras, Pa.; one cousin, Janet Mogler and her husband, Elmer of Cynthiana, Ky.; two sisters-in-law, Elsa Weber and husband, George of Barryville, and Laurie Trotti and her husband, Bob Trotti of Livingston Manor; three brothers-in-law, Alan Barnes of Lake Isabella, Calif., Larry Barnes and his wife, Sharon of Gouldsboro, Maine, and Art "Farmer" Barnes and his wife, Sue of Barryville; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his faithful dog, Mixx.Honoring Bill's wishes, there will be no visitation, or flowers. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Frank C. Mutolo, a longtime resident of the area, passed away Monday, April 2, 2007 at his home. He was 89.The son of the late Gaspare and Anna Sacco Mutolo, he was born November 12, 1917 in Palermo, Sicily.Mr. Mutolo was a retired General Contractor. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Pond Eddy and St. Anthony's R.C. Church, Yulan. Frank also served in the U.S. Army during World War II.He is survived by his wife, Mary Sattie Mutolo, at home; two sons, Gaspare Mutolo and his wife, Ann of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Frank J. Mary Frances Geib, age 77, a life-long resident of the area and a retired Recreation Director for Creedmore State Hospital, Long Island, died Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Belle Reve, Milford, Pa.Daughter of the late Phillip and Anna Mae Fahey Geib, she was born in Port Jervis, N.Y. on January 2, 1930.Mary worked with The Meals on Wheels Program in Port Jervis for many years.Survivors include three nieces: Kathleen Dickson, Jackie Burns and her husband, Tom, and Frances Westfall and her husband, John, all of Port Jervis; two nephews, Thomas Geib and his wife, Laura of Hilton Head, S.C. and Phillip Geib of Port Jervis.
