ARTHUR "KOJAK" FORD Port Jervis, N.Y. Arthur "Kojak" Ford, a retired School Bus Driver for Campbell Bus Service, Matamoras, PA and a long time area resident, died Tuesday September 21, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. He was 74. He was the son of the Late Francis and Marion Ford, born August 4, 1930 in Glen Ridge, N.J. He was married to the late Wanda Melloh Baggatta. Survivors include his stepson, Idell Conkling and his wife Pauline of Port Jervis and one sister, Peaches Stern of Philadelphia, PA. He was predeceased by his son, Arthur Ford Jr.; and seven brothers. Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. LAVERA EVELYN JONES Westbrookville, N.Y. LaVera Evelyn Jones, a longtime area resident, and a retired nurse's aide for Orange County Residential Heath Care, Goshen, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at Park Manor in Middletown. She was 81. The daughter of the late Ernest Stephens and Florence Josephine Green Stephens, she was born on October 3, 1922 in Marbletown, NY. She was the widow of William Jones, whom she married December 19, 1943 in Otisville Methodist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara A. Ashworth and her husband, Richard, of Westbrookville; three sons: William E. Jones and his wife, Patti, of Middletown, Gary W. Jones of Muncy, Pa.; and Stephen R. Jones and his wife, Cheryl, of Franklinton, N.C.; four sisters, Elizabeth VanDer Meulen of Coldenham, Mary Lou Smykla of Middletown, Alice Noviski of Goshen, and Sandra Peavey of Middletown; three brothers, Joseph Stephens of South Carolina, John Stephens of Middletown, and Barry Stephens of Wurtsboro; seven grandchildren, Julie Holmes and her husband, William, Jill Ashworth and her husband, Dino Vitiello, Gregory Jones and his wife, Theresa, William E. Jones Jr. and his wife, Beth, Kevin Jones, and Nicholette and Rachel Jones; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ernest, Charles, Frank and Richard Stephens; and sisters, Louise Eagan and Sarah Hummel. LaVera was the oldest of 14 children. JEAN A. WOHLSCHEID STINARD Virginia Beach, Va. Formerly of Port Jervis, N.Y. Jean A. Wohlscheid Stinard, a retired registered nurse and former native of Port Jervis, died Monday, September 20, 2004 at the Virginia Beach Hospital in Virginia Beach. She was 69. The daughter of the late Francis and Evelyn Buckley Wohlscheid, she was born May 29, 1935 in Port Jervis. She was a former member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis; and the Catholic Church of the Holy Family, Virginia Beach. Jean graduated from Orange County Community College earning her Associates Degree in Nursing. Survivors include three sons, Fred Stinard and his wife Cindy of Virginia Beach, Mark Stinard and his wife Gwen of Virginia Beach, Greg Stinard and his wife Kim of Chesapeake, Va.; her sister, Mary Wohlscheid of Port Jervis; her brother, James Wohlscheid of Port Jervis; eight grandchildren, Danielle, Kyle, Nicole, Mark, Ryan, Sara, Shane and Lauren. The daughter of the late Carl and Dorothy Stewart Joergle, she was born January 7, 1938 in Liberty. She was a member of the Jeffersonville First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband James L. DOUGLAS M. LONGWELL New York City, N.Y. Formerly of Port Jervis, N.Y. Douglas M. Longwell, a retired beautician for Broadway, New York City and lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. He was 70. The son of the late Clifford and Dolores Williams Longwell, he was born August 20, 1934 in Middletown. He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis. Survivors include his life-time friend and companion, James Wong; one brother, Barry Longwell and his wife Mary of Port Jervis; nieces, Dolores Jones, Michelle Phillips, Debbie St. Onge, Cathy Cutright, Trudy Bender, Shirley Lima, Lisa Crowley; nephews, Tracy Longwell Jr., Kim Longwell, Troy Longwell; one aunt, Dorothy Kuhlman; his close friend, Gloria Robinson; the extended Fuller and Wong families; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. The son of the late Wilhelm and Berta Hohnhorst, he was born December 22, 1936 in Bremen, Germany. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and camping. Isabel Ruth Van Patten, a retired Domestic Relations Officer for the Pike County Probation Department, Milford, Pa., and a lifelong resident of the area, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at her home in Milford. She was 79. The second daughter of the late Samuel and Ida Barkley Fenner, she was born December 9, 1924 in Matamoras, Pa. She was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church; she was a graduate of Port Jervis High School; and a certified graduate of the Katherine Gibbs School of New York. Survivors include her husband, John Walling Van Patten, at home; three sons, John Stephen Van Patten of Guadelajara, Mexico, Brian James Van Patten of Milford, Pa., and Jason Barkley Van Patten of Glen Spey; and one grandson, Aren Barkley Van Patten of Pocono Woodland Lakes, Pa. The son of the late George T. and Alice Weeden Brundage, he was born March 6, 1924 in Middletown, N.Y. He was the husband of Kathryn Waycie Brundage of Apopka, Fla. Mr. Brundage was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Jervis and a former member of the Greenville V.F.W. Post # 3175. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII; he was an avid bowler and hunter.
