Mary Latini, age 98, loving mother and grandmother died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at her home. She was born on January 3, 1916 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late Ralph and Frances Ruggeiri Morgi. Mary retired from Kolmar Labs, Inc. in Port Jervis. She was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society. She married Lawrence J. Latini who pre-deceased her. Mary is survived by her two sons: Lawrence R. Latini and his wife, Susan of Lodi, NY and Joseph Latini and his wife, Sherry of Saugerties, NY; her two daughters: Georgianna Black of Port Jervis and Frances Buchanan of Port Jervis; her five grandchildren: Penny Rudinger and her husband, Adam, Zachery Gokay and his wife, Alexis, Luke Latini and his wife, Jody, Larry Latini and his wife, Beth, Baird Buchanan and his fiance, Veronica; six great grandchildren: Merry Kate, Adam Ross, Abigail, Allison, Lawson, Mya and one cousin. Mary was predeceased by her sister, Lena Morgi. Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, November 16th at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis. Prayers will be offered at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, November 17th at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis, NY; Rev. George Hafemann will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Port Jervis. Marcella R. Nastor (Aunt Margie), beloved aunt, age 94, formerly of Port Jervis, New York, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2014 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was born in Southold, Long Island NY, December 20, 1919 the youngest of six children born to the late Ben & Helen Nastor.Marcella was born and raised in New York and spent most of her adult life there. She enlisted in the Army during World War II and hoped to see the world but never left New York State. After her military service she worked for Gannett, a large publishing company in White Plains, NY for many years and then retired and moved to Port Jervis, NY to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Anna & Clarence Knealing. She then moved to Colorado Springs in December, 1996 with her niece Elizabeth (Knealing) Wilcox.
Marcella was predeceased by her sisters Anna Knealing, Mary Zack, Nellie Nastor, Sister Carolyn Therese Nastor and Sister Mary Aquin Nastor. She leaves behind her niece Elizabeth Wilcox of Colorado Springs and her nephew Terence Knealing of Greenville, NY; as well as a host of great nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 9:15-10:15 am. Prayers will be offered at 10:15 am at Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main Street, Port Jervis, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 46 Ball St. Port Jervis, NY. John C. Romeo, Jr. died peacefully after a brief illness on November 7, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Place in Port Jervis, New York. John was born January 15, 1940, in Port Jervis, the son of the late John Romeo, Sr. and Catherine Babey Romeo. He was 74.
John graduated from Port Jervis High School Class of 1958 and from Marist College in 1964 with a B.A. in English. He did his graduate work at the University of Scranton. John returned to his hometown of Port Jervis to teach English for 31 years, chairing the English Dept at the PJHS for 23 years and relishing his teaching of English Literature especially. He was always proud of his English department colleagues, who showed creativity, intelligence and dedication to their students. In 1975 under the inspiration and hard work of Jerry Cohen, John and Bob Rifkin began the Syracuse Project Advance program in English at PJHS, a program that enabled students to earn college credit while high school seniors.
John’s years of coaching football also made him proud. John played football for Joe Viglione in 1957 and began coaching with Joe in 1967, which he continued to do for 16 years. With much affection he remembered his years coaching also with Bob Witherow who remained a dear and supportive friend.
John was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Assoc., the Marist Alumni Assoc, and the Democratic Party.
He is survived by his loving wife, Geri Hill-Romeo, brother James Romeo, his daughter Mari-Beth Blackwell and her husband Ian, of Charlotte, NC, his son Mark Romeo also of Charlotte, NC, grandsons Dominic and Brock Blackwell, sister-in-law Kathleen Hill McGee and her husband Donald of Cranford, NJ, nieces Kate McGee of Austin, TX and Annie McGee of New York, NY.. He was predeceased by his mother-in-law Mary Kuziw Hill, his father-in-law Gerald Hill and by good buddy Don Clayton with whom and his family John and Geri spent so many happy Cape Cod summers.
John’s family thanks all our special friends and family members who helped out so much during a difficult time and many others who gave such kind support and care, especially Dr. Gopal Shah and the nursing staff at Bon Secours Community Hospital and St. Joseph’s Place.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10 at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home,154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY. Prayers will be offered at 7 PM with Rev. George Hafemann officiating.. A reception will follow to celebrate John’s life.
