LINDA L. CUOMO, GLEN SPEY, NEW YORK

Linda L. Cuomo, age 69 of Glen Spey, NY, passed away Monday, November 25, 2013 at her home.  She was born on May 13, 1944 in Ossining, NY.  Linda proudly served our country during the Viet Nam War  with the United Sates  Army.  She is a member of the American Legion in Ossining, NY and also a  member of Ducks Unlimited.  Linda married John J. Cuomo, who survives at home. She is also  survived by her brother George Barker and his wife  Jackie of Chandler, Arizona and one niece.  Friends may call Friday, November 29, 7-9 PM a the Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, Croton-On-Hudson, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 30, at 10 AM  at Holy Name of Mary R.C. Church, Croton-On-Hudson.  Cremation will be private.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 E. ALMA MARY PENCEK, ANACORDES, WASHINGTON, FORMERLY OF PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

Alma Mary Pencek, age 95 formerly of Port Jervis, NY, passed away on November 9th, 2013 at Anacordes, Washington.  She was born September 20th, 1918 in Elched, New York  the daughter of the late George Ort and Margaret Ort Knapp.  Her step father was Charles W. Knapp.  She had a sister, Jennie Welsch, who pre-deceased her.

 

She married the late John A. Pencek from ScrantonPA in 1938.  They were married until John passed away on May 8, 1994.  She is survived by her son, Richard W. Pencek of Lemont, Pennsylvania.

 

Alma worked at the Novelty Slipper Show Factory in Port Jervis, New York for eighteen years. When the factory moved to MiddletownNew York, she worked another eighteen years at Go Far Footware.  She started the career as a cutter and ended as an office and payroll clerk.

 

When she was not working, she was very active with various youth programs in Port Jervis. Alma, along with her husband John, started the Youth Junior Bowling League in Port Jervis, NY. This program was held at the Port Jervis and Minisink Bowling Lanes.  She worked with the program for over thirty four years where as many as four hundred kids participated during the week. 

 

Alma held several offices with several bowling associations.  She was active in the Port Jervis Association, the Middletown Women’s and New York State Associations.  She also held offices with the National W.I.B.C.

 

She was a lifetime member of the Middletown Women’s Bowling Association.  Both Alma and her husband, John, were inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame for their many years of service to the youth bowling leagues.

 

In 1996, Alma moved to AnacortesWA for health reasons.  She lived there several years where her niece Joan Cox assisted her with maintaining her own apartment.  She was blessed with the faculties to still maintain all the functions and an apartment into her nineties.  She still maintained close contact with her son, Richard, on the east coast along with several of his classmates. Some actually visited her in Washington.

 

Alma and John were very active in their son’s participation in athletics.  They did not miss a football or lacrosse game while he was at Rutgers, and made many visits to Penn State to see lacrosse.  They made many friends with these visits.  Even Joe Paterno wrote her and sent photographs to wish her well. 

 

She loved to travel.  Alma and John traveled to Europe several times, and she along with her son would go to Canada or Oregon when he would visit.

 

Alma was very close to her extended family.  She kept in close contact with them.  She always tried to help others, and always remembered to send cards or telephone friends when there was a special occasion.  Her kindness and thoughtfulness will be sorely missed. Memorial services  will be announced  at a later date and will be held at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home,  154 E. FRANCES M. GRIFFIN, MATAMORAS, PENNSYLVANIA

Frances M. Griffin, age, 92 of Matamoras, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Belle Reve, Milford, Pennsylvania.  Frances was born on December 31, 1920 in Port Jervis, NY, the daughter of the late Howard B. and Martha A. Stuier Furman.  She was a former member of the Pocono Chapter #62, O.E.S., at Matamoras.  Frances married Francis  E. Griffin, who pre-deceased her.  She is survived by her four sons, Keith Griffin and his wife Karen of Ledyard, Connecticut, Howard Griffin and his wife Carole of Goshen, NY, Gary Griffin and his wife Christine of Pine Bush, NY, and Wesley Griffin and  his wife Diane of Goshen, her  two daughters, Annette Griffin of Bloomingburg, NY, and Charlotte Griffin of Tucson, Arizona, 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.  She was pre-deceased by her daughter,  Marie Ostrom.  Funeral services  and interment will be private.   Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 31 W. SHIRLEY M. GEORGI, MATAMORAS, PENNSYLVANIA

Shirley M. Georgi, age 84 of Matamoras, Pennsylvania, passed away Tuesday,  November 12, 2013 at the United Methodist  Home, at Hilltop,  Johnson City, NY.  She was born on December 31, 1928 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Andrew and Kathryn Stratton Teachman.  Shirley worked in the dietary department for the Delaware Valley School System.  She was was a member of the United Methodist Church of Matamoras, a choir member of the church and a  member of the United Methodist Women.  She was also a former Cub Scout Den Mother, and Girl Scout Troop Leader.  Shirley married Ernest L. Georgi, who pre-deceased her.  She is survived by her daughter,  Kathleen Walsh of Endwell, NY, 3 grandchildren, Tristan Hinkley, Janet Olson and Erick Georgi, several great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  She was pre-deceased by her son,  Richard E. Georgi, and her brothers and sister.  Friends may call  Monday, November 18, from 10-11AM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY.  Funeral services will follow, Monday, Nov. 18, at 12 Noon at the United Methodist Church of Matamoras, 209 Ave H, Matamoras, PA.   Rev. ROSEMARY SMYTHE COMERFORD, BELLE HARBOR, NEW YORK

Rosemary Smythe Comerford passed away peacefully on November 11 at St. Joseph’s Place with the "daughter she never had," Cathy Sadaghiani, by her side. She was 92 years young and had stayed active in her community of Belle Harbor right up until her recent illness. Rosemary was the daughter of Edward V. and Rose Nevins Smythe and the widow of William P. Comerford, who predeceased her in 1976. She had no children, but is survived by many cousins and dear friends. She was the first female Vice-President of a bank in the State of New Jersey and retired from National Community Bank. After that she moved to the seaside community out in the Rockaways, where she was a parishioner at St. Frances De Salles. After Hurricane Sandy, her life, as well as all else in the Rockaways, changed forever. Prayers will be offered at 10:15 am , Friday, November 15, at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. James The Greater R.C. Church, Montague, NJ.  Rev. Wayne Varga will be the celebrant.  Interment will take place at Restland Memorial Park in Hanover, New Jersey.  A Memorial Service will be held at St. Francis DeSales  RC Church, Belle Harbor, NY at  Belle Harbor at the convenience of the family. The family wishes to thank Dr. Gopal Shah and the staff of the 3rd Floor and most especially the staff of St. Joseph’s Place at Bon Secours Community Hospital for their tender loving care and support of Rosemary these last three weeks. JAMES L. SMITH, MATAMORAS, PENNSYLVANIA

James L. Smith, age 86 of Matamoras, Pennsylvania, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at his home. He was born on April 1, 1927 in Matamoras, Penna., the son of the late  John and Emma Mills Smith.  Jim was a retired equipment  repairman for Contel Telephone Co., in Port Jervis, NY. He proudly served our country during  WW II, with the United Sates Navy. Jim  married Karen Denk Smith, who survives at home.  He is also survived by his  daughter, Patricia  Smith of Hartville, Ohio, his two son,  John Smith and his wife  Marsha of Allentown, New Jersey and Barry Smith and his wife Sandra of  Montoursville, PA and his two grandsons,  Benjamin and Alexander Smith.  Visitation and funeral services will be private at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. JOHN A. WILLIAMS, TOWN OF GREENVILLE, NEW YORK

John A. Williams, age 72 of the Town of Greenville, NY, passed away, Tuesday, October 21, 2013 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis. He was born on September 9, 1941 in Camden, New Jersey, the son of the late John and Ruth Whitaker Williams. John proudly served our country during the Viet Nam War, with the United States Air Force. John worked as a Auto Service Transporter. He is survived by his three brothers, Bruce Williams and his wife Suzanne, Craig Williams, Robert Williams and his wife Kathy. THOMAS E. BENSON, PORT ST. LUCIE, FLORIDA, FORMERLY OF MATAMORAS, PENNSYLVANIA

Thomas E. Benson, age 78, of Port St. Lucie Florida, and formerly  of Matamoras, Pennsylvania, passed away,  Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, Florida.  Tom was born  in Moosic, PA, on August 29, 1935, the son of the late John and Ruth Borthwick Benson. Tom retired from Orange & Rockland Utilities, Inc.  where he worked for 36 years.   He was a member of the first Baptist Church in Port St. Lucie. He was a former Fire Chief for Westfall Township, PA. He was an avid golfer in the Savanna Club and was a member of the  Bandits Golf Club in Port St. Lucie.  Thomas proudly served our country with the United States Marine Corp., during the Korean War. Tom married Marilyn Gastmeyer Benson and celebrated 55 years of marriage.  He is survived by his wife,   his two daughters, Susan Jewell and her husband Robert of Wellington,Florida,  and Sandra Coleman  and her husband Edward of Houston, Texas, two grandchildren, Kelsey and  Jeremey Coleman, two brothers, John Benson and his wife Elizabeth of Matamoras, PA, and  James Benson wife Shirley of Matamoras, PA and  several nieces and nephews.  He was pre-deceased by his son, Scott Benson.  Graveside services will be held Friday, November 8, at 11AM at Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras, PA..  Arrangements are by the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. DONALD F. PAULISON, PORT JERVIS, NEW YORK

Donald F. Paulison, age 79, formerly of Port Jervis, NY passed away,  Monday,  October 28, 2013 at his home.  He was  born in  Paterson, New Jersey on December 5, 1933, the son of the late  George M. and Lorena A. McDonald Paulison.  Don proudly served our country during the Korean War with the U. S. Navy.  He worked as a letter carrier for the US Postal System in Port Jervis.  He previously worked as a surveyor for Orben Surveyors in Milford, PA.  He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis,  a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 471 in Port Jervis, and a former member of the Port Jervis Fire Dept. Donald married Carole Gastmeyer Paulison, who survives at home.  He is also survived by his daughter,  Katie Paulison, his son Jamie Paulison and his wife  Lisa , 3 grandchildren, Coltin,  Jessica,  and Andrew, one niece and two nephews.  Don was pre-deceased by his two brothers,  Jack and George Paulison.  Friends may call  Friday, November 1, from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, NY.  Prayers will be offered , Saturday, November 2, at 9:15 at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St. Mary's R.C.
