John O'Neill

John O'Neill, a longtime resident of the area, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2006 at his home. He was 71.

The son of the late Bernard and Alice Jones O'Neill, he was born June 25, 1935 in New York City. He was married to Carol Ann Roberts O'Neill, who survives.

John was a retired Director of Transportation for Occupations, Inc., Middletown. He was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Pond Eddy; he was a charter member of The Lumberland Lions Club; a veteran of The Korean War, U.S. Navy; a member of the Cochecton American Legion. John was a former councilman for the Town of Lumberland, N.Y.

Survivors include his wife at home, Carol Ann Roberts O'Neill; one son, John O'Neill of Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; four daughters, Kathleen Cheshire and her husband, George of Port Jervis, Pamela St. Pierre of Swansea, Mass., Carol Ann Phillips and her husband, Christopher of Swansea, Mass. and Jennifer Last and her husband, Ronald of Derry, N.H.; three brothers, Bernard and Charles O'Neill both of the Bronx, N.Y. and Michael O'Neill of Las Vegas, Nev.; 13 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Peter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Pond Eddy. The Rev. Anthony Moore will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Eldred.

Aurora B. Stewart, Town of Greenville, New York

Aurora B. Stewart, a longtime resident of the area, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Amsterdam House, New York, N.Y. She was 83.

The daughter of the late John and Frances Baylor Skipper, Aurora was born December 10, 1922 in Mt. Joy, Pa. She was the widow of the late Rev. Lewis S. Stewart.

Aurora was a retired Therapy Aide for Middletown Psychiatric Center, Middletown. She was a former member of the Wickham Methodist Church, Port Jervis and attended the Hope Chapel, Washingtonville.

Survivors include one son, Lewis S. Stewart and his wife, Janice of Spring Valley, N.Y.; two daughters, Janet Stewart of New York City and Ursula Stewart at home; two sisters, Joan Lockwood of Lancaster, Pa. and Romayne Birdgett of Mt. Joy, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Frederick Neil Lewis.

Visitation will be Monday, October 16, 2006 from 12-1 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 16, 2006 at 1 p.m. in The Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home. The Rev. Robin Martineau and Rev. Alvin Gunther will officiate.

Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Matamoras, Pa.

Edward "Red" Dwyer, Port Jervis, New York

Edward "Red" Dwyer, a lifelong resident of the area, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006 in Port Jervis. He was 89. Son of the late Edward Dwyer and Sadie Davis, he was born October 6, 1917 in Port Jervis, N.Y. He was married to the late Marguerite Cramer. A veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II, Red was a member of V.F.W. Post #161 in Port Jervis, N.Y. He was also a member of Most Sacred Heart Church in Port Jervis; and was a 68-year member with the Excelsior Engine Co. #5 Fire Department in Port Jervis. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Penner and her husband, Barry of Port Jervis and Carol Drew of Port Jervis; one son, Richard Dwyer and his wife, Janice of Gray, Tenn.; one sister, Irene Eakin of Mahwah, N.J.; six grandchildren: Jeffrey and Darren Penner, Matthew Penner and wife, Jamie, Stephen, Kevin and Nicole Dwyer, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Robert Dwyer, and four sisters: Margaret and Clara Dwyer, Mary Barry and Genevive Reisack. Friends may call on Friday, October 13, 2006 from 6-9 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, N.Y. Prayers will be held Friday evening and the Port Jervis Fire Department will conduct services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Most Sacred Heart Church, with the Rev. Raj officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Matamoras, Pa. Clara C. Lane, Matamoras, Pa.

Clara C. Lane, a housewife and lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, October 9, 2006 at her home. She was 79. The daughter of the late Hermis and Ethel Dubois Cossano, she was born December 17, 1926 in New Paltz, N.Y. She was married to the late Ralph F. Lane. Survivors include four sons: Michael Lane and his wife, Tina, of Port Jervis, Ralph W. Lane and his wife, Cathy, of Mammouth Springs, Ark., Gary Lane and his wife, Shirley, of Port Jervis, and Kenneth Lane and his wife, Georgene of Claremore, Okla.; one daughter, Nori Lane Bishop of South Albany, Vt.; one sister, Alice Deyo of Lebanon, Tenn.; one brother, Hermis Cossano of Gaffney, S.C.; 17 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by her son, Douglas Lane. Earl "Bus" Post, Port Jervis, New York

Earl "Bus" Post, a lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, October 9, 2006 at his home. He was 93. The son of the late Earl J. Post and Susan Barrett Post, he was born August 21, 1913 in Port Jervis, N.Y. He was married to the late Bernice Avery Post. A veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II, Earl was a retired Troubleshooter and Repairman for GTE Telephone Co. in Port Jervis, N.Y. He was a member of Port Jervis Lodge of Masons #328 F&AM; Port Jervis Lodge of Elks #645 BPOE; the Roosa-Fleming VFW Post #161 in Port Jervis, and American Legion Post #1 in Albany, N.Y. He is survived by one nephew, Daniel C. McMahon of Delmar, N.Y. He was predeceased by his niece, Kathy Jane Smith. Jason "JC" Carroll, Matamoras, Pa.

Jason "JC" Carroll, a longtime resident of the area, died Sunday, October 8, 2006 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown, N.Y. He was 34.

He was born on March 8, 1972 in Wayne, N.J. "JC" was a contractor for Ellison Construction Co. in Matamoras, Pa. and attended St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Matamoras, Pa.

Survivors include his wife, Heather Drake Carroll, at home; one son, Jagger Carroll; one daughter, Hailey Carroll, both at home. His third child is expected in January, 2007. He is further survived by his mother, Bonnie Peine of Port Jervis; one brother, Kyle Carroll and one sister, Nicole Carroll, both of Port Jervis; his mother and father-in-law, Jime and Cindy Ellison of Matamoras, Pa.; and several aunts and uncles.

Friends may call at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 East Main St., Port Jervis, N.Y. on Wednesday, October 11, from 2-3 and 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, N.Y.

Helen V. Sadowski, Port Jervis, New York

Helen V. Sadowski, a resident of Port Jervis, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2006 in East Stroudsburg, Pa. She was 94.

The daughter of the late Edward McFadden and Mary O'Hoolhan McFadden, Helen was born August 3, 1912 in New York City. She was married to the late Edward Bennett and secondly to the late Peter Sadowski.

Helen was a retired inspector for Sperry Gyroscope, New Hyde Park, N.Y. She was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Josita Bennett of Sharon, Conn.; four grandchildren, Alyson and Edward Bennett, Jill Shaw, and Jeannette Grubert; 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Edward Bennett, Jr.

Friends may call Tuesday, October 10, 2006 from 4-8 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 11, 2006 at 10:15 a.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis. The Rev. Dennis Dinan will officiate.

The vigil wake service will be held Tuesday evening at the Funeral Home.

Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, N.Y.

George R. Cuddeback, Port Jervis, New York

George R. Cuddeback, a lifelong resident of Port Jervis, passed away, Friday, October 6, 2006 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis. He was 84.

The son of the late Benjamin and Mary Kelly Cuddeback, George was born October 23, 1921 in Port Jervis. He was married to Mildred March Cuddeback.

George was a retired supervisor for Delaware Valley Sand and Gravel Co., Port Jervis. He was also a Veteran of World War II, in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Roa of Matamoras, Pa. and Ellie Russo of Wantage, N.J.; one sister, Girlie Hosking of Mt. Hope; two brothers, Tom Cuddeback of Austin, Texas and William Cuddeback of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren, Ryan and Darren Roa, Brandon, Alex, Rachael and Kevin Decker.

He was predeceased by his brother, Benjamin Cuddeback.

Friends may call Monday, October 9, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at 1 p.m. in the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Port Jervis.

Gene D. Martin, Sparrowbush, New York

Gene D. Martin, a lifelong resident of Sparrowbush, passed away, Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the home of his son in Lynn Creek, Mo. He was 83.

The son of the late Albert and Jennie Masten Martin, Gene was born December 19, 1922 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was married to the late Alice Dugay Martin.

Gene was a retired assembler for Channel Master Electronics, Ellenville. He was a Veteran of World War II for the U.S. Army; he was a member of Roosa-Fleming V.F.W. Post #161, Port Jervis; and also a member of The Color Gaurd, Post #161.

He is survived by two sons, Donald Martin and his wife, Debra of Ash Flat, Ark. and William Martin and his wife, Susan of Lynn Creek, Mo.; one daughter, Alberta Kroger and her husband, Daniel of Matamoras, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his grandson, David Kroger.

Memorial Services will be announced at a later time.

Burial will be in Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello.
