John F. Peck, Jr., Lake Ariel, Pa., Formerly of Port Jervis, New York

John F. Peck, Jr., a lifelong Port Jervis resident and retired mechanical engineer for Johnson & Johnson Co. in New Brunswick, N.J., died Saturday June 25, 2005 at Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton, Pa. He was 80.

Son of the late John F. Peck, Sr. and Frances Farnum Peck, he was born May 18, 1925 in Oak Park, Ill.

Mr. Peck was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II; he was a graduate of Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y. and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Muller Peck, at home, whom he would have celebrated 57 years of marriage on July 18, 2005. He is also survived by one son, John Kevin Peck and wife, Elke, of South River, N.J.; two daughters, Valerie Dolan and husband, Thomas, of Mead, Wash., and Jacalyn Factor and husband, James, of Woodbine, Md.; his grandchildren: Justin Peck and wife, Kathy; Kirsten Jansen and husband, Casey; Gregory Factor; Paige and Julie Factor; Alexis Rhoades, and Nathan Dolan; one great-grandson, Chase Jansen; his sister-in-law, Barbara G. Peck of Naples, Fla.; four nieces and two nephews.

He was predeceased by a grandson, John Travis Peck, and brother, Daniel F. Peck.

Friends may call on Wednesday June 29, 2005 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 in the afternoon at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis, N.Y.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at 12:30 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private.

William J. Sosler, Middletown, New York

William J. Sosler, retired proprietor of Sosler Automotive Sales and Service, Middletown, N.Y., and a life-long area resident, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, N.Y. He was 80.

William, the son of the late John and Elizabeth Greener Sosler, was born in Florida, N.Y. on August 17, 1924. He was a Communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Middletown, a member of the Knights of Columbus, Middletown. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force and is a Veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his daughters, Suzanna Falli and her husband Peter of Huguenot, N.Y., and Thera Head and her husband Michael of Walker, La.; as well as several sisters and brothers; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services were held at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be private.

Emma I. Marchant, Matamoras, Pa.

Emma I. Marchant

Emma I. Marchant, a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, died Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at St. Joseph's Place in Port Jervis. She was 86.

The daughter of the late David and Mamie Doty Middleton, she was born September 9, 1918 in Sparrowbush.

She was the widow of Harold E. Marchant.

She was a member of the Matamoras Seniors; Emma was an avid card player and enjoyed playing Bingo.

Survivors include her son, Harold W. Marchant of Matamoras, Pa.; two daughters, Mary Perkowski and her husband Peter of town of Greenville, Kathleen Gregory and her husband Ronald of Milford, Pa.; her longtime companion Frank Mastrianni; one sister Gertrude Tedford of the state of Florida; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, June 24 at Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ben Willis officiating.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery in Sparrowbush.

Dolores Height, Mill Rift, Pa.

Dolores Height, a lifelong resident of Mill Rift, Pa. and homemaker, died Monday June 20, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y. She was 76.

The daughter of the late Mervin and Grace Smith Iloft, she was born October 13, 1928 in Honesdale, Pa.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Matamoras, Pa.; member of the Westfall Township Board of Elections; and also served as a Den Mother of Cub Scout Pack 77 for many years. Dolores loved to crochet and knit. She entered many contests and won numerous awards and ribbons for her intricate work.

She is survived by her husband, William E. Height, at home; two sons, William A. Height and wife, Debbie, of Mojave, Calif., and Steven Height and wife, Bobbie, of Matamoras, Pa.; one sister, June Perry of Honesdale, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Madison M. Cook, Port Jervis, New York

Madison M. Cook, 15 months old, died Sunday June 12, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, N.Y.

The daughter of Ryan and Eileen Latini Cook, she was born February 29, 2004 in Scranton, Pa.

She is survived by her parents, Ryan and Eileen Latini Cook, at home; maternal grandfather, Jack Latini and his fiancée, Theresa Torres, of Port Jervis; maternal grandmother, Charlene Decker and her husband, Gary, of Shohola, Pa.; paternal grandfather, William H. Cook of Elmira, N.Y.; paternal grandmother, Karen L. Savino and her husband, Joseph, of Elmira, N.Y.; maternal great-grandmother, Helen Latini of Port Jervis; paternal great-grandmother, Mary Gunderman of Elmira, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her maternal great-grandfather, Michael Latini.

Visitation and funeral services will be private on Wednesday June 14, 2005 in the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, with Carol Hawthorne officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Jervis.

Marguerite G. Dwyer, Port Jervis, New York

Marguerite G. Dwyer, a wife, mother and a retired sewing machine operator for H&M Knitting Mill of Port Jervis, died Sunday June 12, 2005 at St. Joseph's Place in Port Jervis, N.Y. She was 86.

A lifelong resident of Port Jervis, she was born on October 27, 1918, the daughter of the late Harry Cramer and Clara Simmons Cramer.

She is survived by her husband, Edward J. "Red" Dwyer, at home; two daughters, Sharon Penner and husband, Barry, of Port Jervis, and Carol Drew of Port Jervis; one son, Richard Dwyer and wife, Janice, of Annadale, N.J.; one brother, Ernest Cramer of the Town of Greenville, N.Y.; six grandchildren: Jeffrey, Darren, and Matthew Penner, Kevin and Stephen Dwyer, and Nicole Drew; and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph "Shorty" Lombardo, Port Jervis, New York

Joseph "Shorty" Lombardo, a retired foreman for Novelty Slipper Co. in Port Jervis, N.Y., and lifelong resident of the area, died Friday June 10, 2005 at his home. He was 86.

The son of the late Joseph and Philomena Teria Lombardo, he was born February 10, 1919 in Naples, Italy.

He was a member of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Port Jervis; member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society in Port Jervis; life member of the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks #645 B.P.O.E.; life member of the Delaware Engine Co. #2 of the Port Jervis Fire Department; member of the Port Jervis Country Club; a volunteer at Mercy Community Hospital in Port Jervis; life member of the Musicians Union in Port Jervis; and member of the Port Jervis Band. Shorty also maintained his own band for 40 years.

He was the widower of Ethel Hopkins Lombardo.

He is survived by one son, Joseph Lombardo and his wife, Donna, of Port Jervis; two grandchildren, Brad and Lisa Lombardo; one brother, Charles Lombardo and his wife, Betty, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters.

Friends may call on Monday June 13, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 165 East Main St., Port Jervis, N.Y. Mt. Carmel services will be held on Monday afternoon at 2:30 PM; Elks services will be held Monday evening at 7:30 PM; and a vigil wake service will be held at 8:00 PM.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 14 at 10:15 AM in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Mary's R.C. Church with the Rev. Dennis Dinan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Jervis, N.Y.

Helen D. Conkling, Port Jervis, New York

Helen Dolores Conkling, a lifelong resident of the area, and employed by the Port Jervis School System, died Friday June 10, 2005 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y. She was 63.

The daughter of the late Esther Mills, she was born March 30, 1942 in Port Jervis, N.Y.

She is survived by her husband, Charles "Chic" Conkling, at home; her daughter, Dawn Conkling Higgins of Port Jervis; her son, Brian Conkling of Port Jervis; one sister, Mary Mills of Shohola, Pa.; four brothers: Frances Maillet of Livingston, Texas, William Mills of Port Jervis, James Mills of Port Jervis, and Robert Mills of Matamoras, Pa.; four grandchildren: Andrew, Alex, Adam and Aiden; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in Rural Valley Cemetery in Cuddebackville, N.Y.

Leonard H. "Itch" Mapes, Sr., Port Jervis, New York

Leonard H. "Itch" Mapes, Sr., a retired assembler for Ford Motor Co. in Mahwah, N.J. and St. Louis, Mo., died Sunday June 5, 2005. He was 69.

The son of the late Ralph H. Mapes and Wanetta Montgomery Mapes, he was born October 24, 1935 in Port Jervis, N.Y.

He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret "Pat" Carter Mapes.

A resident of Hazelwood, Mo. and lifelong resident of Port Jervis, he was a life member of Hose 4, Howard Wheat Engine Co. in the Port Jervis Fire Department. Itch was an avid bowler and member of the Port Jervis Bowling Team; and was inducted into the Bowlers Hall of Fame.

He is survived by four sons: Leonard Mapes, Jr. of Port Jervis, Ralph Mapes and his wife, Peggy, of Hazelwood, Mo., Duane Mapes of Port Jervis, and Eugene Mapes and his wife, Laura, of West Alton, Mo.; one daughter, Melissa Canizales and her husband, Larry, of Florissant, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Lyda Belle Hicks.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2005 at 1 PM in the Knight- Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., 154 East Main St., Port Jervis, N.Y., with burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Matamoras, Pa.

Margaret A. Lybolt, Huguenot, New York

Margaret A. Lybolt, a retired assembler of Kolmar Labs in Port Jervis, and also retired from J.J. Newberry Store in Port Jervis, died Tuesday June 7, 2005 at Valleyview Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation. She was 83.

A lifelong resident of the area, she was born to the late Electus and Merle Tarkett Martin on March 6, 1922 in Huguenot, N.Y.

She was a life member of Neversink Valley Grange in Huguenot, N.Y.

She is survived by her husband, David A. Lybolt, at home; two sisters, Grace Forbes of Port Jervis and Joyce Service and her husband, Ronald, of Huguenot, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Karrie Williams.

Charles Kinne, Eldred, New York

Charles B. Kinne, a retired superintendent of Proctor Estate of Glen Spey and resident of the area for many years, died Sunday, May 29, 2005 at his home in Eldred. He was 77.

The son of Herbert B. and Mildred Kinne, he was born June 10, 1927 in Glen Spey.

He was a member and past assistant chief and president of Highland Lake Fire Dept.; life-member and past president of Town of Highland Lions Club; and former school board member of Eldred Central School District. He was also aVeteran of the US Merchant Marines.

Survivors include his wife Loraine Foster Kinne at home; four daughters, Helen Bradshaw and husband Jim of Grass Valley, Calif., Elizabeth Clarke and husband Wayne of Hopkinton, N.H., Tracey Lukowicz and husband Matthew of Goochland, Va., Patricia Barnes and companion Adam Norris of Highland Lake; one son Daryl Barnes and wife Jill of Yulan; 10 grandchildren, David Mellan and wife Jenny, Marissa, Devin, Derek, Morgan, Taylor, Deborah, Katie, Cameron and Kadin; two great-grandchildren, David Patrick and Nicole.

Elizabeth Coss, Montague, New Jersey

Elizabeth Coss, a lifelong area resident and housewife, died May 31, 2005 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was 84.

The daughter of the late Cornelius Prussia and Lucy Collins, she was born May 28, 1921 in Port Jervis.

She was the widow of Lloyd Coss.

Survivors include one daughter, Cynthia Hagg and husband Arthur of Montague, N.J.; one son Wade Coss and wife Mai of Montague; one granddaughter, Linda Coss and husband Luke of Montague; one grandson, Jessie Coss of Salt Lake City, Utah; one great-grandson, Rowan; one sister, Joan Roach of Port Jervis; and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by husband; four sisters, Catherine Felter, Pauline Praschler, Stella Bauer, Beverley Prussia; brothers, Charles and Frank Prussia.
